Still sleeping in recliner?
Tina-
I am not in the recliner every night. However, I do find it the most comfortable place in my house.
I can't wait until I can sleep on my side. It doesn't hurt when I lay on my side. But when I wake up I feel achy. So I have been dying to do it- but avoiding it mostly because I am afraid I am doing some damage on the inside stitches.
Does anyone know when it should be "safe" to sleep on my side again?
I hope your in your own bed soon!
Linda
Linda,
Iread your post and you asked a question about sleeping on your side, why? Did your doctor tell you that you could'nt? Mine never said anything like that to me. I've been sleeping on my side since surgery, 7-6-2005 and have been feeling and doing great. Let me know ok, you have me curious now. By the way I'm down 42lbs and I can see it for myself and it feels so good. When was your surgery?
Cheri
Yes, My Doctor said early on sleeping on your side could be bad for your internal stitches. Also, honestly, it hurt!
It feels weird after I lay on my side now. I don't know why..but I guess I assumed it was still not "great" to be sleeping on my side.
My surgery was 7/26 (just over 3 weeks ago)
Congrats on your 42 lbs! WOW! I have only lost 16 post op so far. But a total of 27 lbs. including pre-op diet.

Hi Linda,
I slept on my side pretty much as soon as I started sleeping in my bed. (About a week and some after surgery). Did your Dr. tell you not to, or is it your comfort level w/how you are feeling? I sleep on my side now (and have been since I started sleeping in bed) and, as far as I know, I haven't had any problems.
Good luck! It's tough when you can't sleep how you want to!
Take care,
Lisa
Lisa-
My Dr. told me not to sleep on my sides early on because it was bad for the internal stitches. However, I believe that is exactly how it was worded. So early on could have been the first few days, weeks or months. I don't know!
I do feel "weird" after sleeping on my side. I have this funny pain in my right side. I guess I kind of figured that meant I "shouldn't" do it. I might call my Dr. though and ask him if it's O.K. to do now.
Linda
Sorry, I had Lap RNY so prob won't be much help since you had open, but I was still in a recliner for a good week plus some. I *hated* not being able to sleep in my bed, though. I probably pushed my comfort level. Sometimes it still hurts, but not enough that I feel I'm damaging myself. Maybe prop yourself w/some pillows?
Sorry hun, that sucks! I feel for you.
Take care,
Lisa (5'9")

Me don't have a recliner, so I slept on my back for like two weeks. This week I have been on my side and stomach. I feel for ya honey, cuz it's so hard to sleep in a position your not accustomed to. You will heal, it's just your open RNY needs it's time to heal up. I will put your rest in my thoughts and prayers.
