I vomited today :-(
Well, I told myself I would *never* let this happen, and it did anyway. Ugh!
My and my best friend went to the Oregon Gardens today. It was so beautiful and we walked & walked. It was great! When we were done, it was close to dinner time for the both of us, so we decided to go out to dinner. I thought I was ready for this step. (Ha!) Anyway, I stopped drinking my water and by the time we got there, my alloted time had passed. (30 minutes before I eat.) We end up going to Red Lobster, which was way cool because I was craving Crab. Yum!!! (I am on moist proteins, so I am allowed to eat that.) So I'm cracking the crab out of the shell & piling it on a plate so I can monitor how much I eat. Paula shares her salmon w/me, too, so I have a few bites of that as well. Well, as I was cracking the crab, I would pop a bit into my mouth (OMG, sooo yummy!!!) and shell some more, pop another piece in, shell some more, have a tiny bite of salmon, shell some more. I think you get the picture? I took my time with all of this, but it was still MUCH too much. I end up feeling really yucky. Like my pouch was full, so the food just kind of built up in my throat; waiting for the pouch to empty. What a horrible feeling. Then I started salivating like mad, and trying to swallow, which would make it worse (the pain would come in waves, like the food was trying to fit into my pouch, but wouldn't, and that would hurt, then it would back up into my throat again) and I just wanted to relax and make it go away. I didn't think I would actually vomit, though (I *hate* to vomit & will do almost anything to avoid it. At least I thought I would!). Anyway, so we leave and drive back home. I keep feeling yuckier and yuckier and I salivate more. I tell my friend, "I really think I'm going to throw up, I'm so sorry!" and I ended up throwing up into a paper bag she had. It didn't hurt like I thought it would, and I sure felt better after! But how embarrassing!! I can't believe I let this happen! Boy, never, ever again! I'm taking my measuring cup with me wherever we go! It's actually in my purse, but I didn't take it (my purse) with me when we left. Ugh, I was *so* uncomfortable. We pulled over at a rest stop & walked around for a little while. I think I just threw up what was in my throat because I still felt full, and even a little bit more. But *not* like it was. When we got home, I relaxed for about an hour, and felt a lot better. Whew, that was not good! Like I said, never again! Measure, measure, measure!!!
Take care everyone!

Lisa-
Sorry to hear of your rough experience.I too had some crab yesterday, but a really small amount. Haven't had that happen yet, although I have felt overly full once with a scrambled egg, and it felt like it was just laying in my throat, but didn't vomit. i definitely agree with the measuring, and eating really slow!
Hope you feel better today.
Hugs,
Pam
Hi Pam,
I have some left-over crab that I will be eating for dinner tonight. You can bet I will be measuring it! I'm feeling much better today. There really was no negative side effects, I'm just not gonna let that happen again! Ick, I hate to throw up. Too funny about the egg, cause the same thing happened to me! It just kinda felt like it was hanging in my throat. Yuck! And this was only eating an ounce! Yep, I'll be taking my measuring cup any time I go out, that's for sure!
Thanks for the message, and take care,
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
I'm 31/2 weeks postop, and I either eat too fast, or don't recognize when I'm full. Then it starts. Pain, or weird sensations, gas, just no way to get comfortable, nothing to help, just have to vomit to stop whats going on.
When the salivating gets going you know it will be very soon & you will hurl! I hate to, avoided vomiting as much as I could my whole life, & now this is happening almost every day. Gross! Any suggestions? This morning I drank my protein shake too fast & threw it up 11/2 hours later! Please help!
Hi Linda,
I have a hard time with eating too fast as well. I set my timer. Take a bite, chew, chew, chew, then swallow a bit of it at a time. Then put the spoon down and wait for a bit. Then do it all over again. It gets to be a pain sometimes, especially if I'm in a hurry. I knew it would be this way, but knowing it and living it (as someone else said) is 2 very different things! I have to read or have something to do while I eat, or I end up eating too fast.
OMG, I know what you mean about the salivating!! Yikes, I think I coulda filled a bucket! (ewww! ) I'm so sorry you're getting sick every day. What a drag! I wish I had some advice for you. I only did the one time, and I know what I did wrong.
Good luck! I hope it gets better for you.

Hi everyone. I now feel so much better having read everyone's posts. (I guess I thought it only happens to me) I am sorry it happens to you all too. I am 18 days post op lap RNY and have started the soft food part of the diet. I don't understand why I feel bloated all the time. I am trying very hard to slow down my eating and chew. I think I have to start to measure. Now this may sound stupid but I have never in my life measured the food, can you tell me how you do it? (amount type of measuring cup/spoon?) Thanks. Tonight was the 1st time I didn't like that feeling or the feeling like I've been to an all you can eat buffet. I have been seriously considering going back to clear liquids (boring) but I felt better... I hope this too shall pass for all of us.
Best wishes.

Hi Lori,
I never measured food before, either. Luckily, my program gave me a 2 oz cup so I could see how much food to put on my plate. They said that 2 oz is a quarter of a cup, so you could measure that way, also. I did not measure when I went out, and filled my pouch WAY too full. Urg, I won't do that again!
I have heard that going back to clear liquids is really good for your pouch when you are feeling yucky. That helps almost everyone I've heard that from. Luckily I didn't hurt mine, but lots of folks can't handle vomiting.
Good luck and take care,
Lisa
Hi Lisa-
This has happened to me as well on two occasions. Once, I slipped and ate a piece of chicken skin. I thought that I had gotten it all and low and behold! Here comes dinner. The second time, I let myself get over hungry. My stomach was rumbling!! I ate some spinach WAY to fast and about 20 minutes later...............here it comes!!! I, too, have always hated vomiting. Now, if I am not careful, ooops, there it is!!! There are lots of days that I feel soft is the way to go. Cottage cheese, yogurt, soup, string cheese, tuna salad. Sometimes, though, you just got to have the real stuff....FOOD!!
Anyway........hopefully we have all learned what full feels like so that the food doesn't sit in our throats and we don't salivate like a basset hound!!!
Have a great evening!!
