Anyone try carbs yet, like pasta? Im on the soft foods, but am afraid to try it, since they say to try to stay away from carbs. I did try a low carb whole wheat bread and I was fine.

Hi Tiffany, I am four and a half weeks out. I had my four week nutritionist appointment this past Thursday and she told me to start eating more regular meals but still stay on the soft side. She did tell me I cannot eat bread yet. She also mentioned that small amounts of pasta would be fine to eat. So, last night I had a very small portion of lasanga and I did fine. No problems. I just want to reinterate that my portion was very small approximatly 2 oz. I so want to try bread as I love it but I will follow her orders for now. Take care, joyce

Hi Tiffany. My doctor allowed me to go home from the hospital on liquid and pureed foods. They require that things be either sugar free or under 10 grams of sugars. They are not as concerned about the carb count. The first week I pureed raviolli and did fine with it. I only ate about 1/4 cup but boy was it good!! I added some fat free shredded cheese to get some extra protein. Good luck, Shellie

Thank you !! I like to have some input before I venture and try something I would regret.

I know what you mean... I was on the "no carb" diet pre-op. And now my new list of "approved foods" are major carb foods. I think once your on "real" solids you'll want to limit carbs. But at this point, the texture and ease on your stomach to digest is more important. I do know that bread is something that sometime balls up and can get "stuck". My info. from my Dr. says to avoid just plain bread. Linda

i've been on regular foods (just haven't tried much variety though- scared too) for about 2-3 weeks- i can do crackers, melba toast, angel hair pasta, even tried cheese tortellini (spelling?) and that is fine- i tried low carb/low fat wraps- and it was so gummy- i only did the one bite-.. haven't tried much in breads though.. just mainly the things i listed ... i still focus on the protein.. and veggies first... with anything chew it well... jennifer

I found this pasta called Barilla Plus. It contains ALA Omega-3. In one 2 oz serving (dry) it has 10 g of protein. I made home made meatballs the other day with no sugar added sauce. I had 2 small meatballs and out of the one serving of pasta, I had about 1/3 of it. Very satisfying...Jacquee

OOH....Barilla Plus, huh? Sounds good! At least I'll be getting my protein in and it wont feel like a waste to eat it. Thank you!

My doctor Ok'd pasta for me during my soft food phase. I tried it the other night with spaghetti sauce. I ate three small fork fulls. I was so full but the bad part was after I felt like I had a brick in my stomach. It lasted a long while. I was so glad when it passed. I'm happy I went ahead and ate it because I loved pasta and craved it constantly but now I can honestly say I never EVER want to eat it again. But that was just my experience.
