Hi everyone, I am celebrating today. First, Today is exactly four weeks since my surgery and my recovery is going very well. Secondly, I just walked 2 miles! I could hardly make it out to my car before surgery. I have my life back. I can walk! I can walk again! This really opens my life up. I can go to Wal-Mart or the mall and actually walk instead of sitting on a bench waiting for my husband to do the shopping! In fact, I can do the shopping now. The weight I lose is wonderful but walking again is incredible. Best wishes to everyone.

Joyce... I was so happy to read your post. I think walking is the main reason I have undergone the surgery. I want to be like you, I am only 1 week out from surgery and so far I don't feel any more able to walk, but your post gives me hope! Two miles...you go girl! Hope

Hi Hope-I didn't feel like walking the first week either! I did walk all through my house. I went from one end of the house to the other until I got comfortable enough to walk outside. Really, the second week for me things started to change and I got stronger and stronger with each week. I thing the weight loss helped as well. Take Care-joyce

Hi Cheri-I started walking in my house when I first got home from the hospital. We live in a large manufactured home that is 80 ft. long so I would walk from one end of the house to the other several times a day. Around two weeks post op I was comfortable enough to walk out side. We live in a rural area and our drive way is approx. 700 ft. long or 1/10th of a mile. At first I walked up and down my driveway once and felt really good so later that day I doubled the walk. As the days went by, I never walked less than I walked the day before and increased my walk by another trip down the drive and back. Before you know it, I was doing two miles. My driveway has a small "dip" so I also have a small hill both ways. I don't think I could have walked like this if I hadn't had a loss of 18 lbs by week two. That's like 72 lbs of pressure off your back and all your joints especially knees and ankles. (load bareing joints and muscles.)I'm not an athletic type person so I just told myself this is something I have no choice to do if I want to be successful with my weight loss and to improve my health and most importantly my quality of life. I hope this helps Cheri. Best wishes to you. joyce
