I am about 2 1/2 weeks out and have started having pain about 2-3 inches above my belly button. My mom said she doesn't think thats where my pouch is (she has had the surgery) but my intestines. It ussually hurts the most at night, or a few hours after I eat. My dr's out of town but I will see him next week, til then I will just try to take it easy. It has been a loooong weekend. Hope everyone is doing well. Laura

Hi Laura- We're 7/15 buddies, and I have been having pain in my mid abdominal area too. Sometimes it's real uncomfortable, and then sometimes its gone. I have been having a problem with constipation, and also I think a lot of GAS. I find, when I burp, which is quite often, the discomfort eases a lot. So I've been taking GAS-X twice a day. Am still pretty much onliquids, cuz I thought the cottage cheese and egg beaters I'm allowed would just make the constipation worse. I, too, see my doc next Tues. and plan to ask him about this. Hope we both feel better soon. It seems one day I feel real good and the next day i feel lousy. Is this how you feel too? Take care ,and take one day at a time. I know it will get better. Hugs, Pam

That is exactly how I feel. Some days completely normal with little to no pain and somedays I feel terrible. Make sure you keep us updated on how you are doing. Laura

Greetings July Surgery Buddies! The pain in my left side continues to grow worse...and at times is EXCRUTIATING! I called the doc yesterday (and have an appointment this Thursday). He said it doesn't sound like anything is "wrong" since I have no swelling or infection in the wound. I don't know what to do! I have been taking the pain meds at night and fortunately that does help. I have just been reluctant to take the pain meds during the day as I don't want to become "reliant". I am not sure what the solution is here. "One day at a time" I presume. Wishing you less pain, ~Julie

Hi Laura, I had my RNY on the 26th. If anything my pain level is increased. I am having trouble with constipation so have not taken my pain meds (just plain tylenol). I am going to call the Dr. this AM and tell them about my increasing pain. I had a fluid pocket in my left incision post op, and just wonder what's going on. I have been avoiding calling because my doc is 3 hours away and dread the thought of another day in the car. Linda

I do not think what I am having I would call pain. Very uncomfortable in my tummy area. Some days are okay and then somedays very bad. It seems even mashed potatoes causes gas. I just keep reading my manual and hoping each day will get better. I think I tried to exercise too early and it has not helped at all. I am also having problems finding where I replied on this forum. Guess I do not know my way around too well.

Hi All, As far as pain I have been in pain since the surgery and recently when I went back to my surgeons office for a follow-up, I had my staples removed and the largest incisizion upper left one right under the breast for those of us with lap. Well it busted open and started leaking out some what I believe to be pus and blood. My nurse told me that it is liquidfied fat. I have been in so much pain when I went to see the nurse the other morning and she manually scooped the stuff out and then used swabs to wipe the insides out (without numbing ), I was screaming and crying like a baby so much pain. Well, even though I saw her that morning I went to the ER last night and they did a CAT scan and saw some infection. LIke I suggested it was. Well after the ER doc wanted to admit me and the surgeical resident trying to send me home it was a bunch of crap all night. Well I have been on Morphine, Tylenol 3, Oxtcoton and now I am on Perkasett, so far so good. As far as being constipated goes the pain meds WILL constipate you. I have also just started my home nurse service. I am gonna find out if it is ok to drink dilutted prune juice in order to have a bowel movement. If there is any advice I can offer, it would be to advocate for yourself, because if you don't no on will. If your pain meds are not working have them place you on someting else. Even though my surgeons office nurse seemed to feel upset that I went to the ER and got another opinion,(although that is not why I went but because of pain moving around and getting worse) I can not let that bother me. The bottom line is, this is my body and I have to make sure I get the care I need and deserve. I will not agree with the docs just because you know? Well All take care I hope to talk to you all soon Take care of yourselves and if something doesn't feel right, go with your gut instinct. Your body will tell you what it needs! Leem
