Hi All, My name is Lisa Jenen and I had my surgery (RNY) on July 19th. Whew, what a ride it's been! I've been wanting to talk to people who had surgery around the same time as I did, and here you are! I'm so happy to find you! I'm reading some back posts so I don't ask questions again that everyone has answered a million times. But it's good to be here where we all are in the same boat. Boy, someone said that our surgeons sure have us on different types of diets, and Oh my goodness do they ever! I was on clear liquids for a week (broth never tasted so good! ) and now I am on full liquids, which means I can have creamed soups (w/out the chunks), sf pudding, cream of wheat, yogurt, etc. Next week I will be able to have mushy proteins (like eggs, stuff like that). I don't remember what the week after that is. But I won't be able to have fresh veggies for around 6 months! Not that I am a huge fan by any means but I hear that I will be craving them. But my surgeon really suggests we listen to our bodies, and try stuff one step at a time. so we'll see how it goes. Getting in my fluids is quite hard. I am supposed to be up to 48 oz, and I'm averaging 36ish. Yikes. And next week is supposed to be 64 oz! I don't know *how* I'm going to do that. The weird thing is, I love water. I was a HUGE water drinker before surgery. But this whole sip-sip-sip thing is hard for me to learn. I am (was) a gulper. I (used) to drink huge quantities at a time, and that would satiate me. Sipping is hard. But I am able to drink bigger sips now, and that is helping. Oh, something about myself I noticed; I used to *hate* cold water. I liked mine tepid thank-you-very-much. Now I love ice water. And chewing on ice chips really helped settle my pouch early on. Strange, huh? Well I guess I've rambled enough. Like I said, I'm so pleased to find this group! It will help to know what I'm going through is normal. Take care everyone! Lisa

Lisa- Hey! Welcome to the July board...glad you found it! I am only 5 days out but your Doctor's food plan sounds very much like mine. I am still on clear liquids. I am already looking forward to possible full liquids on Tuesday. He actually "clears" us for this at my 1 week appointment. I just keep thinking to myself-- If I can just make it through this first month!!! Take care, Linda

Hi Linda, Thanks for the welcome! I'm excited to be here. I went from clear liquids to full liquids last Tuesday, and it was a NICE change. I fill up my little 2 oz with some cream of chicken soup and I'm good to go! I have a cup of broth before hand to kind of lead up to it. It was a nice little (and I do mean little!! ) dinner. Full liquids was nice. I will start mushy proteins (eggs, cottage cheese, ect) tomorrow. I'm nervous but excited, too. It will be nice when I can finally chew again! I agree, if I can make it past this first month! Thanks for the welcome. I am looking forward to participating. Lisa
