Having Surgery Aug 3
Hi June -
Congrats on your upcoming surgery. I wasn't really scared (maybe I was stupid) but was really anxious and excited. How are you going to feel?? Can't really say, I think everyone is different. Right when I woke up, I felt like I'd taken a belly punch from Mike Tyson. But, once I got the hang of the pain pump that was all taken care of. Once I was home I only took a pain pill twice. Otherwise have been able to handle it all - just an occassional discomfort - nothing major though. I hope your recovery is as easy as ming. If possible, I'd recommend doing as much walking as you can before surgery. I think because I was doing 1.5 - 2 miles a few times a week on the treadmill that may have helped get me in a little better shape for surgery. So walk as much as you can before surgery and be sure to walk walk walk afterwards. Best wishes for an uneventful surgery day!
Cheers,
Lynn
Hey it's me again just wondering how did you handle your pre-test co-pay. I was shocked as how much they requested upfront for my deductable. they haven't even filed it on my insurance yet and I thought we could wait and pay the difference. because i was unprepared for what they told me if i didn't pay at least half they would have to reschedule my surgery and i am trying to avoid that is that the dr bill or just for pre-test. oh ye! any advice on how you stay totally on liquids i did good for a few days but these last 5 days are the hardest. i eat maybe one meal a day along with my diet but i don't over do it is this okay.
Most of my charges were covered by insurance. I just had my regular co-pays when I went to the drs. offices - it was about $20 each time. At the hospital I had to pay $100. We were very very lucky I know. Do you by any chance have a medical FSA? If so, see if they'll give you a bill to submit for the amount you'll need to pay, submit it to your FSA, then pay them. Just a thought.
It was really really hard to stick to the preop liquid diet - and now I'm almost 2 weeks into it afterwards. I'm sooooo looking forward to a scrambled egg and some cottage cheese. I did a lot of SF jello, SF popsicles, and occassionally I'd do a piece of cheese. Sargento has those little individually wrapped cheddar pieces. Once in a while if totally starving I'd do a slice of lunch meat wrapped with a slice of cheese. Figured it was protein and 0 carbs so wasn't that bad. But I tried to avoid it if at all possible. Stay focused and stay positive and you can do it. Instead of dreading it, try to think of it as the countdown to the new you - like counting down to Christmas morning.
Best Wishes,
Lynn
