RNY 7-11-05 :-S
I was in the hospital for 6 days and now because of all the vomiting I have a torn stick inside, hurts like hell! I can't walk even around the block as my stomach feels likes it's going to break open. I went and saw the surgen on Friday and said that it will just take more time healing. I've only lost 14 lbs and I thought for sure that by now I would have lost more. I think I;m starting to get depressed as I'm always hungry (but I'm not eating all the time) but I can eat about anything I want, not just a lot. THe surgen said to start trying different foods, but I see everyone one else here is on liquids for allmost a month. I don't know what is up with that! I even called the dr to make sure that I could start eating and they said yes! I still can't sleep in my bed, I'm living in our living room! and do much of anything, is anyone else having any of these problems or is it only me? I just need someone to talk to that can tell me I did the right thing and that I will start to lose the weight. Also, I can't stay awake that long so I'm only taking in about 20 oz of water a day, and I know it's not enough. Any thoughts?????
Hi Tammy,
I had Lap RNY 7-6-05. My doctor is VERY CONSERVATIVE at progessing your food stages. Thus he has had very few patients with complications in his 14 years of doing bariatric surgery. I was on clear liquids for 10 days post op. Now I am on full liquids for a whole month.
I had sort of a similar problem, you have a torn stitch and I had to have an extra stitch in the muslce and it hurt like HELL. My doc gave me a binder to wear even though it is only used for Open patients and it helped a great deal. You are not taking in anywhere enough liquids / water. You might be a little dehydrated thus wanting to sleep all the time.
Yes you did the right thing and in a couple of weeks you will feel so much better you won't believe it. I am 3 weeks out and have lost 22 lbs so you are right on target for your surgery date with your weight loss.
I also had to sleep in the recliner for several days but all of a sudden one night I was able to sleep in the bed.
If you were getting in more liquids that would help your hunger. I can honestly say I have not felt the first hunger pang in my stomach, but when I smell food, yes I am still mentally hungry.
I will be praying for you to soon get better.

Hi Tammy-I know how you feel. I had a very hard time moving right after surgery due to a stitch in the muscle. It took about a week or so before I could even straighten up when I just walked through my house. Ditto on what Sue told you. My doctor has advanced me on soft foods however if I for some reason don't feel very good I go back to full liquids. Sue was right about the weight. I think your right on target as well. Take care, Joyce
