How many calories are you eating?
Im drinking water, eating protein supplements (70g)(pills) vitamins etc...
(going to the gym as well) (Protein intake is fine)
I am 10 days postop and -20lbs.
I am only eating about 300-500 calories per day. Is this sufficient enough in the early stages to maintain adequate weight loss?
Eventually I am suppose to go up to 1200 calories per day. But I don't see that happening until I start eating solid foods again.
Thanks
Melanie

Melanie,
If your doc is fine with it, then no problem. I am still in week one post-op and that is clear liquids for me. I am taking in less than 500 calories a day, but the protien is in there and I feel fine. Next week is full liquids and that will probably bump me up a bit to the 500-600 range. My nutritionist says it is more about the bang for the buck per calorie than the number. 600 calories made up of Doritos, for example, would be a problem. Once I hit solid foods, I will be in the 900-1100 calorie range. All the professionals on my team (doc, nutritionist, endocrynologist sp?) think that will be sufficient, and I am hypoglycemic.

I was at that calorie level to...and I would say it stays that way for about the first four weeks, I mean think about it what are we allowed to have? Not much, and we also cant tolerate much yet, so I think its normal to be at that calorie level, I mean for the first six weeks I was only allowed 3 cups protein shake, 1 cup juice and 3 cups min of calorie free liquids...and couldnt always get all the protien shake in. So thats very limited calories...but after the six weeks is up you will start to pick up calories...I lost 34 pounds ten days post op.
