I am still pre op (mon) but I know I was told that mood swings would be a part of this process. My Dr. said it might last for a month but to take it in stride as it WILL pass. Don't know what causes it, probably a lot of things, but it will get better!! ((((HUGS)))) Ronicka

Absolutely! I notice earlier this week that I had a low level of depression and I got up and got busy, my way of handling depression. It has been scientifically proven that our mood swings are attached to physical factors. That being stated, we have all been significantly altered physically so the mood swings and emotional ups & downs should be no surprise. Hang in there, I hear it gets better down the road. mrbrister from Texas

Hi Sara-I didn't really feel depressed just kinda blue for a couple of days. I did however start having anxiety attacks. I take medication for them before surgery but was off of the medicine for a week. I went to my family doctor and she adjusted my medication and I feel much better. I do not take any addicting medication so my medicine does take longer to adjust. When I am going through a rough time I always say to myself "this too shall pass". Best Wishes, joyce

I feel blah, down and like a fifth-wheel. Probably doesn't help that I have a JP drain and a G tube hanging out of me and it's rained everyday since I've gotten out of the hospital but....

I am glad to see you got to have it done. Last I saw, it was cancelled due to the hurricanes. Apparently post-op depression is really common. I am told one reason is that it can take 4-6 weeks for anesthesia to fully work it's way out of our system. Also, our blood sugar is probably really confused! In short: This is really normal.

HeySara, I know just how you feel! I had my surgery on the 5th. I have been crying on and off since. Feeling sorry for myself I guess. As the days go on, though, I am starting to feel better. What you are feeling is normal. Just hang with it - it'll get better. Karen

Hey Sara, Boy do I know exactly where you are coming from. I was the worst after I got home from the hospital. I was really depressed at first. Mostly, because I felt I would have to suffer on this stupid liquid diet forever, even though it is only for one month. I just felt really disconnected from everyone, like they had no idea how hard it was for me. Then I started getting really angry about little stuff. I was really hard on my husband for a couple of days. Anyway, my doc puts all his patients on Zoloft for a month after surgery, to help them with cravings and mood swings. My insurance didn't cover it so I thought I could go without it. But after a week I decided I needed some kind of help so the doc put me on Paxil which is really cheap. It has helped a lot. I am only taking half doses because it causes insomnia for me. I never thought I would need antidepressants but they help take the edge off, they don't make me a zombie or anything. I plan on going off of them as soon as my diet stage changes. I am sure your doc will prescribe something if you need them. It is very common to go through this after any major surgery, especially one that causes such a lifestyle change. Don't feel weak if you think you need them, they will help you. I will pray that you start feeling better. Oh, it helped when I got up and went for little walks with my kids. It made me feel more productive and still connected to them in some small way. Just know you are not alone. Blessings, Crystal

OMG I thought I was the only one feeling this way. My poor husband and kids are going tru hell and so am I. I'm depressed, cry for no reason and sometimes I even wish I was dead. Of course thats the easy way out. I would'nt harm myself just feel like that. If anything has gone wrond it has and all I keep waiting for is something good.Everyday something neww is going on either with my husband, who I haven't been very nice to and he's the greatest man on this earth,. or my son who is trying so hard to keep it together and thats not his resposibility and of couse myself. I don't know what to do anymore. I called my Phys doc and see if I can see her sooner that I'm supoosed to solets hope and pray all goes well, Hugs, Cheri
