Can this be true???
I am 1 week post op and I am fine. I have had literally no pain just a mild twinge every now and then. I did take some liquid Tylenol when I first came home but none since. I had no drains to deal with, no outward stitches or sutures just tape. After nothing but broth and jello for a week, I just tried some pimento cheese on 1/2 piece of bread and it was wonderful . Of course it took me about 25 minutes to eat it but again it was good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. My question is this, Is this normal? I am worried that I am pushing it to far too soon. But I feel great. Am I crazy for thinking I should be worse off? I haven't been told to go off liquids but I just had to try. I feel so guilty because so many people have had a hard time!!! I'm a worrier!! Any comments?
I think its wonderful that your experiencing next to no pain. My surgery is the 19th, I plan to stick with the diet that my doc has told me to be on no matter how I feel. I know you feel good but think of it this way. Your new stomach needs time to heal. It was explained to me that you have to treat your new stomach like an open wound. Thus the reason for starting off clear, liquid, pureed etc. Stick to what your doc has told you and you'll do great. So glad that everything is going well for you
Linda,
I had no pain either- just a few twinges too. I only used the morphine pump because dr/nurse and mom/husband thought i should be using it- so i would press it- and take a nap... i haven't used any pain meds since i was home. I'm feeling so great- i can do 2 miles of walking a day (split up of course) I was still on liquids until i went back to dr (which was 7/7/05) he put me on blended foods for at least 3 weeks- I REALLY STRONGLY suggest- even if you don't "feel"pain right now- to stick with liquid OR the blended foods- applesauce etc... because you migh tnot feel it- but your insides are still healing- and i would hate to see you rupture your new stomach or the "staple" line- you could be stretching out the pouch and the opening- making it- not worth the surgery- because you'll be able to eat more than you should later on...
I broke down and had my first "NO NO" today- i had a pringle- i licked it- and had each bite 'melt' in the mouth before swallowing. tasted so good- but it was ONE- and my first and hopefully only "cheat".
ok
