doctors are so different
It's amazing to me how the doctor's differ . For instance, I don't have to be on the liquid diet beforehand. I do have to be on one the day before my surgery and drink one of those lemon drinks for the bowel prep. No biggie. Today I had an education day. I got to speak with everyone involved with taking care of me. I spoke with respitory, they gave me my spirometer and told me to start practicing that if I did this practicing it would make it so much easier after surgery. I spoke with the nutritionist, physical therapy, the nurse in charge of surgery (who will be in there during surgery), chaplain, I got to take a tour of where I'd be and the staff that would be taking care of me. They were so nice and very well infomed. We have a education coordinator. She is awesome. She is oncall when ever we need her for any questions. They gave me an eggtimer and my shot glass today. I'll be on clear liquids first week, I see my doc one week after surgery. Then go on to full liquids for two weeks. Everytime I go see my doc I get to see the nutritionist and physical therapy. So far I have been very pleased and impressed. I'll let you know afterwards how I feel. Best wishes to everybody. I guess we'll take a little advice from everyone and get the best possible results we can. Happy surgery day to all you guys coming up and keep up the good work for all you post ops.
Hi Deanna,
aaaafirst of all you couldn't be more right. I had my surgeryJuly6th and ever since then I've been on nothing but clear liquids, except for 60mills of insure 3 x a day. I'll tell you I don't know if I'm hungry or just head hungry. I called my nurse and she said I'm doing everything right but to add s2 tsps, oof powered milk in my insure and it helped a little. I'll tell you one thing I can't wait to eat an egg or some jello.
Cheri
P.S. I drink alot of decaf tea with splenda and alot of water and crystal light to. I get alot down to, over 64 fluid oz.
Deanna, your surgery date is coming up really soon. You will be in my prayers. I just had my surgery on the 12th around 9a.m. I came home on the 13th around 4 p.m. I did really well. I was determined not to give any blood clots a chance to form so I got up around 2a.m and walked a few laps around the nurses station. I walked again around 4, and 6. I didn't have any of the problems with gas pains because I think I walked them all off. They let me have little ounce cups of ice chiips as soon as I woke up in recovery. I was sure glad of that because my throat hurt really bad from the tube that had been down it. The morphine pump did help with the pain but be sure you take along chap stick because it really helped. I am home now and doing fine.It hurts like heck when I get up or sit down in the chair, and getting out of bed without the side rails was a real killer, but I understand each day gets better. I fix four of the little ounce cups with high protein liquid, then after I finish all four I walk about 6 laps around the interior of our house. Then I start again. I use an egg timer with my liquids. I found some unflavored whey at a GNC healthfood store and I add it to nearly everything. As long as I am awake I just keep drinking. So far I haven't been hungry at all....in fact , I feel a little full but I just keep doing the liquids. From what everyone says on here the more protein and water the more you lose. We shall see! I have to go back to my surgeon in five days (Mon) to get the drain removed from my tummy. It really doesn't bother me but is just so nasty. I guess better out than in. Well I have rambled to a complete stranger but I hope in sharing it will let you know a little more what to expect. Your time will speed by and soon you too will join us on the losing side. Until then... good luck!
