Im so happy but Im also scared, not of the pain but of the life change and the side effects Im so worried about the dumping syndrome that is always talked about.. also is anyone else smoking still??? I am 1 week to go Im still smoking it seems inpossible to quit now..

My surgery is also the 11th and I'm a nervous wreck. I've been able to controll the nerves up until this week. About the smoking. I quit 19 years ago without all of the tools they have now. Have you tried negative imaging? You know-all of those icky pictures of nicotine saturated lungs? People who had lung cancer. How you feel at the end of the day when you've smoked too much? That's what worked for me. It was disgusting but got me motivated. You'll also be in a perfect place to quit - the hospital. You can't smoke in there and maybe you won't pick them up when you get out. Good luck.

My date is on the 11th. I have been trying to stop for the last three weeks, but my nerves got to me. I am stopping today, so I will have at least one week smoke free. I should have stopped three weeks ago, but better late than never. Debbie

I am in the same boat. It's hard to believe that next Monday I will be on my way to a whole new me. My date has taken months because my surgeon has had me go through so many tests and info classes. Also, I think it took awhile for the insurance. I have had a lot of time to prepare physically and mentally. As for smoking, I know the doctors want you to give it up. I used to be a 2 pack a day chain smoker. However, maybe it might be better if you tackle one thing at a time. Yes, your recovery might be hampered by smoking, but you might go even more crazy trying to quit that AND dealing with the enormous changes that will happen to you. Take it easy; concentrate on the surgery and weight loss. Quit smoking when your life has become routine again and you're used to the new you. I never thought I would say something like that, but you need to focus on the imminent procedure and lifestyle change. Try to find a support group that will help you through the surgery and aftermath, even if it's a Yahoo or other online group. You can do this!! It just may take longer than you feel it should.
