What do I tell my sons about the surgery?????
Elizabeth,
Not sure what I'd tell a 5 year old - maybe just that the doctor's are going to help mommy lose weight by making her stomach smaller and when she loses weight she'll feel better so she can play with him more....as for the 14 year old, I have a 15 year old son and he knows everything. He also has a tendency to be overweight (but he's 6'3" so he doesn't look it). He and I have done Atkins together several times so he understands what it's like to be overweight. I believe in being as truthful as possible with children - it's amazing how understanding they are...
Best of luck.
Maria
You might go back and read my older post on this same subject. I got a lot of wonderful replies to it.
I have a 7 and 5 year old. I focused on the health aspect. I just told them that I was going to the hospital to have some things done that would help me be healthier. I told them eventually I would feel more energetic and playful with them. I also said I would be able to get off some of the medications I was on. I didn't focus on the weight issue because I have a daughter whom I was afraid would derive all kinds of interesting things from that. I focused on kind of how it would effect them in the present and future.
They took it much better than I expected.
Good luck telling yours. I am sure it will be easier than you think!!
