I have a surgery date
My step-sister had the band done. Her weight lost has been very slow she is 18 months out and has lost 60 pounds. She also is able to eat ANYTHING and has since day one. Your stomach digests the same you just can't put much in there. You start getting hungry more often and you go get the band tightened. She said she wished she would have gone for RNY. The results are more permanent and you don't have to keep going to get the band tightened. So when I started researching weight lost surgery I talked to the doctors as well as patients of both. Pretty much the 3 band people I talked to agreed with my sister, so I chose RNY. This is only my personal desison though!
My aunt had gastric bypass feb 04 and just went into the hospital yesterday for a partial reversal. She's been sick NON STOP. After a year and a half they realized her dr did not leave her enough intestines to do it's natural functions of breaking stuff down ect & so they went in to do a partial reversal. It took them 3 hours to remove enough scar tissue before they could even do anything. Today she was moved to ICU with blood pressure of 64/47 & her protein level is 0 She has gone in starvation mode and her body is trying to shut down. This is why I chose not to go with the gastric bypass. Not trying to scare anyone just make sure you have a GREAT DR. Ask to talk to some of his patients and KNOW your risks thats all I can say
