I feel like I need to say.

I feel like I need to say something about hair loss after wls, I've read many profile where people are so upset about the hair loss. So, unless your one of the lucky ones you will experience some hair loss. Some people more than others. No amount of vitamins or shampoos or protein etc. will change that. I Know! When I had my hysterectomy my hair fell out too. I'm one of the types of people who may lose 1-2 hairs in the shower, after my surgery it was 10 or more strands,I would see a pile after each shower on the drain. I would count them and I was so scared. I got thin in my front part but thats the only plce I noticed it. I don't know for sure when I noticed it falling out or when it stopped and started growing back in. It just happens. I went to GNC and bought whatever I could and nothing made a difference. The shock of the surgery caused it to fall out. Just like the malnutrition and rapid weight loss will after WLS. I was on Atkins that whole year and we all know it's called the "meat" diet, so let me say protein didn't change a thing. Face the fact now that it may fall out, and a good bit at a time and buy a hat or wig to get you through it. It's a side effect! I just want people to be expecting it and then when it happens they don't get real stressed out about it. Stress can make hair fall out too! So, God bless you!

Hi Dawn .. You are totally right! I too had a total hysterectomy and experienced the hair loss and it totally freaked me out. My doctor never mentioned it and it really caught me off guard. Its just a fact .. but it does eventually stop. The thing that freaked me out is that it really didnt happen right way .. mine hit me about 4 months post op and it lasted quite awhile. Ive got long hair and Im always shedding but it really freaked me out when you could make a coat out of what I was finding in my brushes and in the shower drain. Ladies just be prepared for it. But know .. it will stop. Hang in there ... Deb

Dawn I'm so glad you brought this up. I was thibking about the hair loss constantly when I heard about it. Now, it's the least of my worries. Plus you can do wonders with hankerchiefs these days and scarfs, they look so nice. Cheri

That is my worst fear. I lost 85 lbs on Atkins a couple of years ago and was almost totally bald on both front temple areas. I looked HORRIBLE. Women are NOT supposed to be bald. I also have been told (don't know if there is any truth to it or not) but that Atkins and the ketones have a lot of effect on the hair loss and it won't be as bad with WLS. I had a hysterectomy and did not have any hair loss. Sue 273/258/?/150 T-16 & counting
