Had my Vena Cava filter installed this AM. The actual procedure only took about half an hour under local anesthetic. It makes me feel a lot more comfortable about my upcoming bypass knowing that it will help protect me from the danger of blood clots. Surgery date is July 6th, three weeks from today. LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN!

I'm glad that you didn't have any problems Tim. I know that it must be a huge relief to have this over with. July 6th is just around the corner!

Hi tim..hope you don't mind me asking, but what was the reason for the filter? Did your surgeon recommend you get one? I've been having these conversations with my surgeon's office - my BMI is "low" I guess, so they tell me that it's up to me. I don't have any family history either...was just curious if there was something specific that generated the filter being put in. Thanks! (3 weeks for you, 4 weeks for me...whoohoooooo!) Sharon

Congrats Tim, I had my filter put in last Tuesday. We are on our way now.... A Vena Cava Filter is implanted in your femoral artery to help prevent blood clots from going to your lungs. It is a tiny wire type basket thing that catches the clots. Sue

Hi Tim I'm glad that everything went well for you. Can I ask one thing though, why is it some people have to have that and some don't? I never even heard of that until I read it on this board. ****************************************Cheri
