All liquid diet (Two Weeks!!!)
I have heard of people doing it, and it is hard. It really helps your liver though. My doc requires a supplement for 2 meals and 1 sensible meal for a week before surgery. I'll be on vacation that week - should prove interesting, but we do what we have to huh? LOL I know you can do it, just mark the days off the calendar with a big red X and know that it is one day closer to the new you! HANG IN THERE!!! We'll be here for ya!

thanks for the reply. I was just reading your profle and found out we are the same age. I'm a mother of 2 children .A two year old and a 12 year old and happily married to the love of my life . I just started talking to people on OH . I've never done anything like this. I think I'm going to like this. Hope to hear from you again. Take care.
Alena, I haven't gotten that far yet. My next apt. w/surgeon and the nutritionist is scheduled for July 6th (surgery date..7/18) so if I'll have to drink liquids I'll find out then. I'm borderline BMI=38 qualifying for surgery so I may not have to lose any weight etc. before surgery. As hard as it would be, I'd do it without fail because w/the surgery you may only lose 70% of your body weight and so while on the diet before you'll have better results after. I guess too they want people not to gain more weight on the last meals before surgery. I'd just look at this as a positive thing your doing and put the negative thoughts out of your head, looking at it this way makes it so much worse. We're ALL very blessed to get to have this surgery, there are some that can't and would do anything to trade places w/us. You can do this, just think positively. HUGS, Dawn
Hi Alena,
I don't have to drink liquids before, just after the surgery for 2 weeks. I've heard of people who had to do that and loose a signifigant amount of weight also. But hey like Dawn said there are sooooo many people who would do anything to have this surgery and for some reason or another they can't.You can do this just keep thinking positive and think of the outcome later on. You'll feel so much more healthier.

I knew from the very first consultation with my surgeon that I would be required to be on liquids for the week before surgery and possibly longer because of my size. (it seems I am much larger than most of the people here)The surgeon suggests 2 weeks now, but I will try for 4(I want to make sure my liver shrinks!) It's something I have to do, so I can get used to it. I was on optifast a million years ago and it's a committment. That was for 6 months. Sounds funny, but you get used to not eating. I'm sure you can do it! Besides, it's temporary, you know the end date. It will make your surgery easier on the surgeon (and THAT'S always good!) See? you do have incentive before the surgery!
good luck,
Steff

i wanna know, what surgery you guys are all getting.. i'm gastric bypass... (lap) and, i was wondering what pre op tests you had done. i'm just so baffled by how many dr's have different requirements and they are all doing the same surgery!!! sigh. i am scheduled for july 6th. i've had to do... echocardiogram, endoscopy, abdominal ultrasound, sleep study, blood work, pulmonary consult, nutritionist, and exercise group. AND, all liquids for 2 1/2 weeks before my surgery. as of now.. i am required to do 2 shakes a day and one meal, the meal has to be low carb high protein (70/30) AND, if the dr doesn't feel you've "lost enough" before a certain date he may push your surgery date back. i'm glad he's being careful and covering all bases but i get frustrated when so many others dont have this strict pre op diet, have the same surgery as i plan on having, and do just fine. hell, if i had this much will power i wouldnt need surgery....
