My biggest hurdle has been jumped successfully. I just got off the phone with the bank and my home equity loan will be approved. That was the last hurdle I had to overcome in order to make my surgery a reality. I'm so happy. Now, I have to start my pre-op Optifast diet on the 20th, see my surgeon on the 30th for a July date. I'm almost there. Now I just need to start playing Powerball.... Thanks for listening to my excitement. Janice

Congrats on the loan! I can't imagine having to go through all of that, but I know it's SO worth it! Good luck with the Powerball! HUGS Kimberly

Janice I'm happy for you. I know that if I were in the same boat I would have done anything to have this surgery. Congrats on the loan. How long do you have to drink the optifast?

Thank you Dawn, The dietician told me to start the optifast on the 20th and stay on it until surgery. Could be 3 weeks, could be 5. Don't know. Maybe I'll call my surgeon's office tomorrow and see what date I'm looking at for surgery. If I can stand it, it will be ok. I've heard of tremendous weightloss on this stuff prior to surgery. You can bet I will be trying all kinds of different varieties and ways to make it.

My doc. didn't give me any guidelines about losing weight before hand. My BMI is 38 according to him and 126 pounds over weight. I'd like to lose some to make my progress more but I don't want to get so low that he tells my I won't qualify anymore. lol

How funny is that? I asked that very question when they said I had to lose about 25 pounds before surgery. "I barely qualify, if I lose it can I still have surgery?" They said yes, once you're in the program, you're in. Good thing because I already forked out $1000. my bmi is around 40 or 41. Depending how tall they calculate me. Since I'm in a wheelchair, it's a different measurement...

I may ask them about it cause I'd like to try to lose some. I'm finding it way too easy to eat knowing I'm doing this surgery and it's got to stop. lol

My Dr.'s nurse told me that if I gain more than 5lbs. that he will cancel the surgery until I lose 50lbs. on my own. I to am eating alot but trying to stay away from the junk food. I quit smoking on May 5th and it's still bothering me. I try to eat alot of fruit but I don't have a scale to way myself on to keep checking my weight. I weighed in on May 12th at the Dr.'s office and lost 8lbs. since then but who knows now I'm very worried about this. Any suggestions? If I could lose 5olbs. on my own I would'nt need the surgery. HELP ME PLEASE!!!! Cheri

Cheri, I would think the only way to lose 50 before the surgery would maybe be on a liquid diet until then. Something like Optifast. Surely they didn't mean it? Is it possible to lose 50 before your date? I wouldn't think so.

Dawn, I think you misunderstood me, if I gain more than 5lbs. before the day I have my 1 on 1 the nurse told me that the Dr.'s are very strick and they would cancel the surgery until I lose 50lbs. on my own, so in other words I can't gain any weight before the 23rd, my 1 on 1 and pre-admission testing. I don't have anyway to weigh myself since the scales don't go past 300lbs.the last time I weighed in I was 322lbs, (which is terrible) I've gained over 20lbs. from 295 in January until May 12th when I was weighed in. Any suggestions? *****************************************Cheri
