Is there anyone who is in recovery?
I need to talk to someone about my situation regarding my recovery. I have been in recovery for almost 28 years. I don't know if the Dr. will still allow me to have the surgery after I tell him. In other words should I tell the truth about it? I'm scared because I want this surgery so bad my whole life depends on it. If anybody that is reading this maybe we can talk a little bit on this subject and you can give me some advice if you don't mind.
Sincerly,
Cheri
I have read several posts on the main message board from WLS patients who are also in recovery. I would say be completely honest with your surgeon in case it is something he/she needs to be aware of prior. i.e. different blood tests, kidney function tests etc.
I can't give you any other advice since I am not in recovery but I would almost bet my paycheck that it won't affect your eligibility.
Good luck and keep us up-to-date.
Janice
Hi Cheri - 28 YEARS???? I'm pretty sure your doc is going to see that as an accomplishment not a hinderance! I am in counseling pre-op for my own past issues. I believe ALL humans have some sort of hurt, habit or hang-up, whether it's addiction, co-dependency, control issues, anger management, etc. "Normal" people freak out every day, or "switch" from one habit to the next... isn't the first step admitting? You're going to do great - Diane
