What will you do now?
We're all having the surgery in July so what do we do in the mean time? What plans do you have to get ready? When will you start getting ready? What will you take to the hospital? etc.
I've started making lists of what I'll need here when I get home, ie. foods, spoons etc. A list of what I'll take to the hospital, and a list of things I need to do before I can do all that. Do you think I need a list to "list all my lists?" lol *nervous laugh*
I haven't even got to the making lists I'm just thinking about making lists!! I did buy some baby spoons. I am so excited but also nervous. I am going to wait until I meet with the nutrtionist to stock up on "food". Do you think taking a size 10 nightgown to the hospital is being a bit too optimistic??
Good Luck with everything..I will send healing thoughts your way.
My date is July 11

I have no idea what to eat after surgery or anything about babyspoons I think I better do a bit more research huh? I haven't met the doctor or gone to any meetings and I am feeling a bit out of the loop, your message really made me think about preparing a bit better. Thanks
TK in Texas Surgery date July 14th in collge station, TX
TK I'm just the kind of person who will make lists for the entire family for vacations etc. The worst part is I do it weeks ahead but don't start packing until a day or so before. I think i do it to help pass the time. At this point i think i'm just in shock....it just doesn't seem real. My sister is so big and her insurance didn't approve her surgery so i guess i just assumed I would have a long fight on my hands.

Well, I'm a planner (likely to a fault) so I"ve been preparing for months. Heaven forbid had I been denied LOL.
Anyway, here's what I've done so far:
Purchased vitamins and other supplements recommended for my surgery
Bought supplies for the hospital: underwear, pads, big comfy nightgowns, slippers, chapstick, extra pillows
Ordered protein (unflavored)
Bought broth, other soups
Lined up child-help
We are ordering a recliner
I think that's it so far, although I"m also asking a lot of questions of my fellow DSers to ensure I haven't missed anything.
LOts of luck to you Dawn!
Sharon, I hear alot of people that use a recliner after the surgery. I borrowed one from my dad after I had my hysterectomy 4 years ago and it came in handy, however I have a king sized bed that is really far off the floor and I was able to gently roll out just fine so I won't be getting the chair this time. I have put off thinking about foods cause I thought I would see a nutritionist long b4 my surgery but it's not until 7/6. I guess I need to find out about brands etc. I was on Atkins for years and so I don't have problems w/protein shakes however if there is something I need to look out for like how much sugar it has etc. Then again when I was on Atkins I couldn't have sugar so that shouldn't be a problem when buying the protein stuff.
Best of luck to you as well.
Hello ALL!!!
I'm happy I found this forum. I don't have an exact date but it will be in July. I find out on the 30th. From my months on the main message board, I have learned NOT to stock up on anything food wise because your tastes change dramatically after WLS. What you like now could very well make you after. What I plan to do is go to GNC in the next couple weeks and see if I can buy some samples of different proteins. I have also started copying every recipe I see on here and pasting it in a Word document. Ranging from 2nd week post-op to 1 year. Not a ton but I would be glad to forward it to anyone who wants it.
I have also started weaning myself off soda pop. I had 2 Friday night with some butterscotch schnapps, but I hadn't had one since last Monday. I won't have anymore till probably next weekend. I have replaced my soda pop with water, I'm getting in over 60 ounces a day. Easy to do at work, not so easy at home on weekends. I have found an awesome way to get my water in. TORANI SF Strawberry syrup!!! (The kinds they add to Italian Sodas. I add a little to my water and it's like drinking kool-aid with anything but 5mg of sodium. 0 fat, 0 carb, o calories and made with splenda.
I start an Optifast liquid diet on the 20th and it is so hard not eat everything in sight right now. (The infamous last supper syndrome****ep thinking of the places I want to go eat before my liquid diet starts, I know it's wrong from what I've read but oh well.

Hi Janice,
You made some really good points. I would love to have a copy of your recipes. We don't have TORANI SF syrups here but we have Davinci Gourmet sf syrups. Made w/splenda. You can buy them at Wal-mart in the really small bottles or the large ones at T J Maxx, Ross & Marshals for $6.99 I usually put these in my coffee, I'll have to try it in water.
Everyone is talking about what they are giving up already and I guess i should do the same.
Check your phone book for a URM or cash & carry type stores. Espresso stands have to get their syrups somewhere. I get my syrups for $3.13 each and that's the big bottle. No memberships required. If shipping didn't cost so much I would buy some for you.
Don't feel like you HAVE to give up anything before surgery, but it does make it easier post-op from what I understand.
