Desperately Need Help
Aloha,
I was 208 before surgery last July. I was a Kaiser patient at the time and they took over a year to get us all prepared for surgery. Classes, nutritionist, support groups, etc. As of January 1 st we changed insurance to BCBS and I don't have the doctors or support group that I need. My problem is I have lost too much wieght and I don't know hot to stop it. I'm down to 115 and am practically skin and bones. I an 5'4''. I haven't weighed this since high school. I am trying to get a high calorie protein shake in and other high protein foods. The problem is I can only eat very small amounts of food and can't tolerate dairy. I have tried to force myself to eat but I just can't. At times I can only get two bites in before I'm full. I can see that my hair and nails are starting to show the effects of this and I'm scared. Please, any suggestions on how I can eat more calories and get my protein in? Please.
I only weigh 98 lbs. I can't hold but about 3 to 4 bites. I am a year out. only 1/2 of a 1/2 of toast. can't eat!!! I still can't get in enough liquids. I am scared I am going to loose more. The doctor said he wanted me at 120 but 110 would do. I have been to the doctor and hospital so much. They still can't find out what is wrong. If you hear of anything that will help you let me know. God bless.
Amy
Ok, kiddos. It is TIME for you BOTH to see a gastroenterologist or your original surgeon. This is a SO DANGEROUS for BOTH of you. I am SO WORRIED about you two.
Immediately, please call your surgeon or your local hospital and tell them what is going on. THEN, go to the store buy a case of Ensure or something similar and drink it at least 3 times a day if you cannot eat.
PLEASE PLEASE make sure you get some help TODAY, girls.
I am here for you if you need anything. Email me at [email protected] if you need me, or need money or ANYTHING AT ALL.
If you can't eat at all, something IS WRONG. That's NOT normal honey.
Please find somebody to help you today.
I love you and call me 513-898-0224 , email me contact me. I will help as much as I can.
Love, Nan
Go see a BCBS doctor (PCP) immediately and have them check you out. Most doctors are familiar with the procedure and although it's not your surgeon, they can do tests to make sure there is nothing seriously wrong with you. Give them your complete history on your surgery and eating habits ...
My surgeon retired and my PCP is taking care of my aftercare with bloodwork and such, so your doc should have no problem taking care of you and refering you if there is a problem.
By this time you should have no problem eating 1-2 cups of food and getting in lots of water. You sound dangerously thin so go see a doc before you see a nutritionist!!
Good luck and thinking of you! ((hugs))

Nancy,
I know that Lauren R had the same issue with losing too much weight and her Dr. put her on a special diet to slow down her loss, but I'm pretty sure it included dairy.
Here's her profile. You can email her directly.
