Las Vegas - The Lurid Full Story
Won't be told here, because as the ad says, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." What a tease of a headline though, eh?
We arrived throughout the weekend, I believe the first folks showed up on Friday. Our official "meeting days" were Sunday and Monday. I can't tell you about all of the Friday, Saturday, or even most of the Sunday excitement, becuase I didn't get in until fairly late Sunday. My youngest sister had selected that day to get married, and I felt even though Las Vegas was calling, she'd get ticked if one of her bridesmaids skipped the wedding to go to Vegas.
We (my sister Vicki came with me, I knew that she'd mesh well no matter what the situation) walked into Margaritaville and saw Channan, who jumped up to greet me with a big hug. She is as nice, or even nicer, in person than she comes across on the boards. Tim, Andrea and Peter joined us, they came in from the dance floor and there were hugs all around. Nan had been there earlier, but she left after dinner and some dancing so we didn't meet her until the next day. After some meet and greet chatting, and a bite to eat for my sister and I - we left Margaritaville. It is a great place, but it is hard to talk over the music, which is played loud. Vicki and I went to check in at the hotel (now midnight).
Then I rejoined the others at Peter's suite at the Aladdin (next door to the Paris, where we were staying). Yep, a suite. And a nice one. With a huge big screen tv that you could watch from the jacuzzi tub if you wanted. We all even got into the tub. (With our clothes on, for pictures.) And we talked. We talked about the same types of things we talk about on the board - but it was in person, with great people. At 2:30 or 3 ish, called it a night, or rather a morning.
Monday was tattoo day and Blue Man Group. We all talked about it - but Channan was the single person who went all the way through with it . She had a design with her. The tattoo shops had books of "flash" or tattoo art - it appears that the shop we were at prefers to do custom work. They work with you to create a custom design. We all had reasons to bug out. The art Tim had would take 5 hours - and we didn't have 5 hours. Andrea, Peter and I all had ideas of what we wanted, but not specific enough to get tattoo'd from. Instead they like you to talk with them about it, make an appointment, and then come back and get the tattoo. So Channan was the one with the design and the guts to go through with it. Yeah Channan.
We all met for drinks and met with Andrea's friend Maureen prior to seeing the Blue Man Group Monday night. Her friend works for/with Blue Man Group and had gotten us discount tickets. Yeah Andrea (and Maureen). At drinks I met Nan. I don't know why, but I assumed Nan was about 4'8. And she isn't. She is normal height or slightly taller. She definately was taller than my 5'4. I enjoyed talking with Nan, she is very enthusiastic. We talked about her new business venture, which is a great idea. And then off to Blue Man Group. The "toilet paper" was provided off big rolls at the start of the show - they don't tell you why. You can see from the picture on the profiles that the paper was used differently by all of us. Tim had the most fun with it. After the show, out for a late dinner and a show. Another show - well of a sort. We got a real show of lightning - different than what you see in the Pacific Northwest, where I'm from. From there, we went our different ways. Andrea was heading out early in the morning. Tim mid morning, Channan in the early afternoon and Peter headed out today. My husband is flying in tomorrow, and we're staying another week.
My impressions - the personalities that come across on the board are very much like the personalities you get in person. The difference? I don't know if you get the warmth from everybody, and positiveness, that was there in person. Letsee if I can do it in a sentence or two.
Andrea - knowledgeable, traveler, worldwise
Tim - smart, caring with a dry wit
Peter - fun to converse with, cares about his students
Nan - enthused about her new business, generous
Channan - flirty, vivacious, cared about all of us
Pam - this is me, I was "the mom"
Vicki - (Pam's sister joined us) easy to get along with, friendly, knows a lot
It was a great time, and I'd love to celebrate our two year anniversary with more of you.
-Pam
Thanks for posting this. Now those who were drunk will have something to refer back to.
Loved you and Vickie soo much! You feel like my family...my crazy, funny, goofy family. I loved that you guys were listening to rap everytime I got in the car, even though it was turned way down. I loved that you held my hand at the tattoo shop until you knew I was in good hands. I loved how the two of you get down right silly together and wear the same clothes. You girls are a hoot and a half!
