Hi Joni It's hard to say why you're not losing faster. One thing I noticed is that you didn't mention any exercise. Nutrition is only half the equation. You have to move to lose. What kind of exercise do you do? As far as your diet goes do you track how many carbs and protien you get? You may need to get more protien and fewer carbs. Start keeping a log of everything you eat and break it down in catagories of carbs, protiens and fats. Most of your calories need to be coming from protien. Is there a nutritionist you can talk to? Your doctor should be able to help you there. Good luck Tim

Joni- Tim mentions two good points, you should be exercising to build up your muscles-- which burn more calories than fat. Are you tracking what you eat-- try fitday.com Also are you going for caffeine free coffee? Caffeine doesn't count as a liquid. Definitely write down what you eat be totally honest and then take it into your nutritionist. Also ask them to test your thyroid. In some cases, a surgeon can make a mistake and I do know one person who had a revision to correct the problem. But make sure you have elimated all other options before you do this. In terms of your femine issue, I had the same problem, in the end I ended up with a 3 week long period. Go to your OB/GYN and let them know. Your hormones go wacky with the weight loss. They might put you on the pill. I had to 'clean house' to get things back to normal-- not fun, but over quickly. Best of luck and let us know what you find out, Cheers.

Hi Joni, First of all, I noticed that you had the fobi pouch procedure. I am not familiar enough with it to know if you have different guidelines, minimums, maximums, etc., etc. It looks to me like you are consuming a lot of carbs. This becomes particularly bad if you do not do any cardio type exercise. Cardio burns carbs. You need to flip those proportions.......eat MOSTLY meat and then snag a few bites of veggies and THEN carbs. Easy on the bagels, beans and oatmeal. They DO have protein in them, but they are chock full of carbs! Oatmeal (1/2 Cup serving): 6 grams of protein and 29 g. of carbs!! That's a lot! Beans (1/2 Cup serving) 6 grams of protein and 20+ carbs! Bagels (1/2 of large) 5 grams of protein, 24 grams of carbs! I can't lecture on the caffeine thing. I'm a HUGE espresso drinker. And to be honest, my weight loss has picked up since I started drinking it. I think it gives me more energy which makes me burn more calories and it also flushes me out. I pee like crazy! I hydrate myself all day long though. I would much rather drink my calories than eat them, so I drink all day long. Are you getting enough sleep? I have heard twice this week how important sleep and proper amounts of rest are to the weight loss process. This is why we can wake up in the morning and be 2 or 3 lbs lighter. Lack of sleep also messes with your appetite levels and makes you "snacky". You did not mention exercise. If your not doing it now........start! Track your intake! Get on fitday.com. It's free and you can track your food intake and exercise. It's GOLD! I use it everyday. You just might not be aware of how many calories you are actually consuming unless you carefully track them. That's all I got!!! C

Joni, A former "Zonie", huh? I'm one of the only native's I know of. Born and raised right here. I have never left the state (well....to live, that is). It was suppose to be 111 degrees today. ( I didn't check the news to see if it got up that high), but I have to say this is definately the coolest I have been in YEARS!! I guess that's what shedding 130 lbs will do for you! I wear long sleeves and pants even. I'm a red head. Gotta watch that sun, I burn in an instant! Ahhhhh Mexican food! I have tried it in other states and my reaction is usually, "What the hell is this........Cheez Wiz?!?!?!?!!!!!!" Take care of that ticker there girly! It's the only one you've got! Don't be a stranger! C

Like C said, don't know about which surgery you had and what your doctor, nutritionist and pcp said, but... Are you getting enough protein in? You may want to add protein shakes (at least one, if not two) back into your diet. I found it restarted my (still slow) weight loss. I believe (with no scientific proof) that with the amount of protein I was eating, which is more than you appear to be getting, that my body didn't have enough. I believe my body thought it was in starvation mode, and held on to what ever it could. Since I re-started the protein shakes my energy level has gone up and my weight loss has restarted. Ditto for the others' messages about carbs (not an area where I'm perfect, by any means) and excercise (I'm better, but have a ways to go). -Pam

Don't beat yourself up. 100 pounds in one year is great. You cannot compare yourself to others. Each person loses differently. I one year 11 months I lost 138 pounds. The other 2 patients that had surgery the same day as me lost a little more than me and the other, less than me. Everything fluctuates on everyone differently. Be patient. Take it one day at a time and you will see progress. Your periods fluctuate too. I have missed a few months too. Don't forget, your insides have been so twisted around. I takes a while to get back on track. Marie Edie
