This is not good!
Hi Michele,
You are not the first person to complain about the wierd just below the rib cage pain... I had it too, even hurts when you breathe deeply.
I wondered why after so many months I was getting the weird pains when it dawned on me that I had run out of and then stopped taking the Pepcid AC that my surgeon said I should be taking for life after surgery. Anyway, I went to my regular MD and asked him to put me on Nexium since it's cheaper for me with my insurance deductible than buying the Pepcid AC over the counter.
Within a day of being on the Nexium my pains stopped and haven't come back and I pretty much can eat ANY type of food with NO problems.
You may want to try it too.... I think our stomachs may just be sensitive forever after surgery. I'll be very curious to hear if you try this and it works.

Hi Sue,
I actually was on Nexium for a couple of months (my doctor gave me samples). It DID help with the "annoying" acid-y feeling that I was constantly having- but this pain is so completely different. It is debilitating, it is as bad as childbirth, meaning all I can do is sit or lay down and moan and beg for mercy. It is truly, truly awful. The other pain was bad but not that bad. The emergency room doctor gave me a prescription for Nexium (since they couldn't find anything wrong) and without insurance it is $180 for a one months supply. Uh, no thanks. So I got Prilosec OTC and that seems to work for the excess acid.
I am seeing my surgeon tomorrow, and I'm almost certain he'll order another Hida scan to check my gallbladder---and I just got back from applying for emergency Medi-cal so that these episodes don't totally devistate me financially.
Thanks for your input Sue!
