FINALLY!!!
Hey Jamie,
Who Hoo!! Man 25 lbs, thats so great!! I know that had to really be scary for ya when you are by yourself. But with time comes knowledge. Lol... You learn really fast what you can do and not do. I learned the hard way just like everyone else. I havent never dumped yet so far, but have had my share of throwing up. I just had to learn to eat slower, and get that darn drinking and eatting thing down pat. But still sometimes I get carried away and I end up praying to the porcelin gods lol.... So hang in there. I promise it gets better...
Hugs Marge
Hey Jamie!
Wow, 25 lbs!!! Yay!!!
About traveling and eating and feeling bad as a result of hours passing before you can get what you need to eat ... make yourself a "kit" with portables in it and take it with you when you leave home for any length of time. I used one of those insulated lunch bags for a while just post op so I could carry cold stuff (yogurt, protein shakes) and a zippered tote with stuff in it (like AdvantEdge and those jello and pudding cups that didn't need refrigeration).
I have to travel 1.5 hours to my doctor, and when I was freshly post-op I never left home without food, but, if I did get caught out unprepared, I found that Taco Bell's refried beans weren't too hard on my pouch ... not the best thing to eat calorie-wise and I certainly couldn't eat a whole serving, but they were at least protein and I could have the cheese, and they were easily come by and a good back-up plan.
I still use a travelling kit, because I don't like to be caught out without having access to what I need, and to keep others from feeling like they have to stop for me. I keep non-refrigerated protein shakes in it, along with protein bars, packets of vitamins and supplements, even some of those 1-serving "Beanie/Weenie" cans that have a "pop-able" lid (again, not a good calorie choice, but good in emergencies because of portability), and (now) PB crackers (for this Late Dumping Syndrome thing happening). It's also got decaf teabags, decaf coffee bags, sweetener, Crystal lite packets ... oh well, you get the idea. I keep a CASE of bottled water in the car always. I can't tell you how many times I've found myself in situations similar to yours and my "kit" has saved the day for me.
Hope this helps.
Myra
