I am an RN and my experience with gastric bypass patients had caused me to be totally opposed to the surgery because I took care of those who had infections and other post-op complications. But then one of my friends had the surgery and did so well. I had reached a point in my life that I was going to die sooner rather than later if I did not do something about my weight. I researched and talked to a lot of people before choosing my surgeon. I had surgery on July 6, 2004, and did have some problems after (mostly related to my other health issues) but have never regretted my decision to have the surgery. I have lost 165 lbs. and still have about 70 more to go. I am no longer diabetic, went from 15 prescription meds to 5, did a 2-mile walk race last year, play with my grandchildren, and love life. Go to my profile and you will see my journey and it detours. I do have one regret--that I did not have the surgery years earlier. Good luck to you on your journey and know that as your body changes, your mental and emotion you will have to change also.

No regrets whatsoever!
I have a life now - I have quality now. I feel good about myself and most of all, I feel healthy. I can walk for miles...hey, I can actually RUN!! I sleep better, I breathe better, I look better, I feel better. Today I have hope for a long and active life. Two years ago, I was on so many medications it was ridiculous. Gastric bypass gave me my life back and more....
Hugs,
Nancy
