Pouch Stretched?
I had my surgery on 7/15/05....the holidays passed...i'm sure i ate more than usual. The past couple of days I've felt as if i can eat ANYTHING without any pain -i mean ZERO discomfort. Well about a week ago I had a bout with overeating... i vowed i would never do it again but now i'm eating a "full" meal. and no discomfort nothing to tell me ive had too much. I'm scared...anybody have this happen to them? Also since i've had the surgeryt I've found the i can eat anything. Nothing would happen the only issue i experienced is in overeating but sugars breads didn't bother me at all.
Kim -
I not only share your concerns...I share your surgery date!
For the longest time, I've been able to eat everything...and unfortunately lots of it! I am petrified...
I go thru phases when if I eat too much, I will puke...but it doesn't always happen...sometimes I can eat a lot - especially crunchy things (you know, all the bad stuff: chips, crackers, pretzels, etc).
I'm very worried because I am not at goal yet. I know I need to get back to basics: protein, water, etc.
I'm not at goal - I have 50lbs to go - and in the last 3 months, I have gained 10 lbs. Not good at all
HOWEVER - I have been exercising - Last month, I ran in the HONOLULU MARATHON. Yup, 26.2 miles...I did it. I trained for 6 months (June-December) and it didnt even help me lose weight. Go figure.
Let me know if you find anything out...
maybe we can be online buddies and motivate one another?? Back to basics??
good luck,
Keri

Kim, you're not alone. I find that I can eat most anything I want and lots of it. I put on about 10 lbs. too, and it scared the HE77 out of me. Luckily I have been able to get back on track with the help of my July babies.
Denise has been running a thread here every day - why not join us in getting back to basics? I restarted my exercise regimen (4 miles of WATP every day) and logging my food on fitday.com. Can you believe I lost 8 lbs. in 5 days!?!?!? I'm keeping my carbs really low and my protein high, and after just a day off of carbs and sugars, I didn't crave them anymore.
I think the honeymoon phase is over and we have to work at losing or maintaining weight. I'm so glad I have the support of this July board family. Hang in there, you can do it!
Hugs,
Nancy

What we all need to remeber is that our pouch is muscle and after time is does expand. A mature pouch (1-2 yrs after WLS) can hold up to 1 1/2 cups of food. We are the users of our tool and we need to careful in making our choices. We all remember when it was 100% the tool and as time marches by it is 20% the tool and 80% us.
Excecise is a key is the WLS game. If we ignore this we are only fooling our selves. I love this quote: "Exercise is the spark, Nutrition is the fuel; without both there is no flame. "
Just keep in mind that Success = Consistency + Time. We need to remain consistent in our effort. I feel a key to our success is to plan our nutrition and workout each week. If we leave things to chance we all could be right back where we started from....for me that is not an option. "When Failure is Not an Option, You're Halfway there!"
Just return to basics...it is never too late to get back on track.
((((hugs))))

I am right there with you!! I had about 4 months of weight fluctuations, but I do believe that activity is the key. I went back to work 2 weeks before Xmas and I have since then lost about 10 pounds, and its sticking this time. Just keep working toward the goal and you will win. I think out bodies need time to adjust. But you must remain active! I always try to remember that WLS is a super tool but it doesn't spare us from cardiovascular disease.. please get back to some form of exercise.
Take care and good luck!! ((HUGS))

About one week every month I go through a period where I eat anything and everything with lots of guilt! I will eat even though I am full and feeling discomfort. As soon as the discomfort subsides just a little, I am back looking for more food. Then there are days when just a bite or two makes me very full and I can't eat anything else. On my binge weeks, I tend to gain a couple of pounds and then lose them later. I bounce about 4-5 pounds throughout any given month.
Everyone says back to the basics and it is sooo true. During my binge weeks, if I stop one day and do heavy protein very low carb, I find that I reach that full point so much earlier and don't want to keep binging. I also force myself to "snack" on water!! goofy, huh? This is the life we chose and we have to constantly remind ourselves why and how to keep on living it right.
This is the best place for support. Although, I don't post on the boards much, I read them all the time and always find something helpful for whatever issues or feelings I am going through. So, thanks everyone!
