Popeye, I'm not!

I hope someone has some answers. Anyone else anemic? I went to my specialist today for a return visit following IV iron one month ago. Hemoglobin counts were still low, so he suspects iron will be also. I have also felt light headed a couple of times in the past few weeks and have some evenings that I just can't seem to get warm. He wants me to see a nutritionist, feels I may be malnourished, but this problem began way before WLS. I do take my suppliments as well as 2 iron tablets per day. On the plus side, I have lost 102 pounds and other than occasional light headed feeling, dreaming of afternoon naps on warm beaches life is good. Cyndi 257/155/130

I had blood work done last week, and while my iron is fine, I'm tired a lot and can't get warm either. I've also had some dizziness (slight--kind of like light headedness really) that comes and goes. My protein and cholesterol were fine, too. Basically, everything they checked was fine (hapy for that), but really don't know what's going on here either. Hi Diana and Jeff, Have you had your thyroid checked lately? Symtoms of hypothyroid are: always cold, dry skin, thinning hair, sparseness of hair on other portion of eyebrows, depression, slowing of weight loss and numbness. I know this as my PCP just did a blood test and I came up hypothyroid. Never happened before surgery though was checked numerous times. It might be worth having a talk with your doc regarding being tested as it causes a problem with protein utilization among other things including high cholestreol and heart problems. At the very least, it should be brought to your doc's attention. Regards, Kathi

H Kathi Yeah, had my thyroid check with my round of blood work. All is good. I honestly think it was Mononeucliosis virus, and the blood test was done too late to detect it maybe. Who knows. I am feeling better, though...a little less tired. But, man, I sleep like a rock when it's bed time! Diana

Hey Cyndi, Yeah, I have low iron, and am often lightheaded and always freezing! (except when driving in my new car...it's been over 100 lately) At night, though, I get really cold. You know what else is weird? I have no feeling in my skin...I can pinch myself really hard and not feel anything. I am scared to see the doc...but I guess I should go... Let me start this by saying my iron has always been low. Always. But each time they test it it slips lower and lower to where they're concerned. Borderline anemia has been mentioned to me. I've had labs done twice in the last month or so. Get the results from Fridays lab work tomorrow. My PCP had them done during my physical and looked over all my lab results my surgeon has had done. He changed my iron perscription and told me if they didn't come up I might have to have an infusion, can't remember exactly of what~he told me but I was so shocked it went in one ear and out the other. I do remember that it wouldn't be just normal blood, but iron infused. Maybe what you had done is what my doc was talking about. I get the light headed feelings alot, pretty much always cold. I've been taking my iron religiously since he changed the perscription and even eaten spinach several times. My surgeon asked me if I was taking my iron and I told him the truth, I'm taking turns. One day I take the one he perscribed, the next day I take the one my PCP perscribed. Hopefully we'll all get over our iron problems soon and without having to eat the dreaded liver both my doctors suggested! ~Tanja 448/276/148
