Bruising and arthritis

Is anyone else still bruising easily? My legs are constantly beat up. Some times the spots are black and blue. Other times they just hurt to the touch. Even something like leaning my leg against the arm on a chair will leave a bruise. I also wanted to ask how everyone else with arthritis is dealing with the pain. We are moving and have been staying in hotels. The strange beds are kicking my butt. My hips hurt. Tylenol isn't doing anything to help. And, all of my arthritis meds are off limits now because of the surgery. I am also having trouble with my other joints (has been a problem for a few years now) and can't get a good night's sleep. Any advice? Hat

i bruise easily, but I am on a blood thinner. Suggest you have your doctor order a protime (bleeding time) with INR. I have arthritis and never have been able to take arthritis meds or ibuprofen because of taking blood thinners, and cannot take even tylenol very often because of some of the medication I take for pulmonary hypertension increases the chances of liver damage. When I just cannot tolerate the pain, I take 1/2 of 500mg Vicodin (my surgeon gave me a prescription for 20 pills after surgery and I have 15 left). Asked my primary if when I ran out of what I have is would order more for me. He said he would because I was obviously not abusing them (no way because I don't function well when I take it). Hope you are getting settled in and back to your own bed. Monna 389/268/150

I dont have any bruising probs, so I cant help you there, and I used to have the arthritis probs when I was fat, now that im thin, my joints feel wonderful. I can totally walk with absolutely no pain at all. I can do 3 and 1/2 miles in under an hour too...woo hoo its awesome. Debra 270/179/150

I bruise easily also but I'm also on medication for my blood Plavix. My knees still bother me when I get up and down out of a chair but normally just walking isn't a problem so I don't take anything for it. I dread next week I will be staying in a motel with my husband he will be having WLS Wed March 2nd and the Drs want him close by afterward for a week (we live 3 hours away from the hosp where he's having it done) So I'll be in a strange bed for about 10 days yuck !! Hope you get moved and back to your normal bed soon !!!

I have actually taken a foam pad about 1 to 1 1/2 inch thick and at least 30" long and put it under the sheet on the motel bed. Most motel beds are really hard. You probably don't have the padding on your hips now either. Even the eggbox type pads sold in stores like Walmart should help a lot and help you sleep better. Works for me. I carry lots of fat on my stomach but very little on my hip bones so I need padding. Nancy C

I forgot to add this. You may need more vit c. It really helps with bruising. Nancy C

Man, if somebody LOOKS at me I bruise. It's ridiculous! I constantly look like I've been fighting (and getting the S__T kicked out of me)! I am going to ask my doc about it at my next visit. I still have dark bruises in my abdomen from the time I had my surgery where they injected the blood thinners...almost 8 months out and even those haven't faded. Crazy, huh? Anyway, hope it works out for you! Keep us posted! Jeff 338/231/188 -107
