Need help.
Hello July Babies. HELP!!!!!
I crave salty things, Dill pickles, raw veggies with salt, I watch the cal. so i don't go over my amount, I want to know if anyone else eats this sort of thing and is it ok ??? I'm loosing very slow. but i'm ok with that. I'm 65 and have lost 63 lbs, another 25 would make me very happy.
My Surgeon told me to have about 1000 to 1200 cal's per day , under 30 gms of fat, and wants me to get the protein from food,
do you think the salty ,no cal things are a problem for me????
I do excersise daily, Curves or my treedmill, Have only lost 1 1/2 lbs in 4 weeks, but lost 4.75 inches Myrna

Hi Myrna
I love salty things too, but because of my history of hypertension, I do have to limit it. I find with salty, sweet, carbs - the more I eat, the more I crave. Try a couple of days without and maybe your cravings will subside.
Salt can also make you retain water, so that may be a reason you're not losing as fast. I would run it by your doc and see what s/he says!

Myrna,
I understand about craving salty foods. That has always been a problem. I have found that if I stop eating salty things for a week or so I lose the craving and unless I again eat something salty, the craving does not come back. That week without salty stuff is hard, but it can be done. Good luck to you in your continuing loss.

Hi Myrna
Right after surgery, I craved salty foods--would have sold my soul for a pickle. As of now, I'm not a big salt craver, but every now and then, the urge hits me.
Walmart sells these "potato-like" chips--they are called Soytiens. They have 8g of protein in them. So, you can get your salty-craving satisfied while getting some protein in, too.
Not the best source of protein, but every little bit helps, right? I would assume that even if you don't have any trouble with hypertension, you could still get too much salt. Check with your doc/dietician. In the meantime, drinkning lots of fluids may help to keep flushing the salt out of your system.
**Maybe you are craving salt because something is missing from your diet? Maybe even a vitamin deficiency? Good reason to check with your doc.
Good Luck!
