Has anyone else simply stopped losing?

I don't mean has anyone hit a plateau. I mean have you literally stopped losing weight? I seem to be done. I'm a little over 7 months post-op and while I'm pleased that I've lost in excess of 80 lbs, it does seem that what I weigh now is what I'm going to weigh. I haven't lost any weight in over a month. Last time I saw my surgeon he said he expected my weight loss to slow down considerably but said I'd most likely lose another 40 lbs over the next year. I sincerely doubt it. So am I alone? From what I read on the boards, everyone else who had surgery around the same time I did is still losing. Thanks. Merritt

Merritt, I don't think you have stopped losing forever...you have just hit a BIG plateau...sometimes they can last for weeks or even a couple of months......get back to basics.......protein first, lots of water, exercise. Hang in there.....it will start up again...sometimes our bodies like to take a break and get things together before it kicks into gear again. Hugs, Denise

Since November, I am averaging 3 pounds a month. Now, I can go for almost 6 weeks and lose nothing, and then within 2 days lose 6 pounds. I have no idea who that happens, I just wigh it would happen more often. My routine doesn't seem to influence the scale, although I wi**** would. Anyhow, the only way I realized that I lose 3 pounds a month is that I track my numbers. The scale moves so slowly that it really doesn't seem to move at all. But, after looking back at my November weight versus my weight today, it actually did move. Ten pounds ain't much, but it's still 10 pounds. I weigh daily, and that makes the scale also look like it's not moving. It frustrates me, but it is my addiction. It's easy to say "don't weigh yourself every day", but it's hard not to weigh often--at least for me it is. You might start checking other WLS people's profiles--people who are 12-18 months out--and see that they slow way down, but kept losing. I'm researching that off and on. Diana

I'd say you are on a plateau. A REAL plateau is actually if you've stalled for 4 weeks or more. Anything less is not actually a plateau but an adjustment period. I had a plateau that lasted 6 weeks and I remember weighing 196 for the whole thing and some days teetered to 197, but for 6 full weeks, not one pound lost. Today I weight 175 so you do get off those plateaus that seem like your done. I was miserable those 6 weeks, I thought for sure I was done and was a failure. I kept doing the right things and here I am. Hang in there and just keep following the plan and you will keep losing, I'd bet on it! Deejay 257/175/150 -82 25 til goal!~

Hi Merritt, I had my surgery 7/20/04 and have also lost a little over 80 pounds and have also HIT THE WALL ! I seem to have STOPPED losing altogether and I am very frustrated too . I know how you feel. I am going to the Doctor this week and will talk to the group there about this. I will definitely give you their feedback. All we can do is keep on doing the RIGHT stuff. Just do what we were doing all along, protein, water, exercise and anything else that worked for you. Wishing you all the luck in the world and praying for both of us (and whoever else is out there with this problem too) for the weight loss to start again, OR, for us to come to terms with this weight loss being what was meant for us. Take care, Helene

Thanks everyone. I hope you're right. I have however promised myself that if I never lose another pound I'll still be happy with what I have accomplished. I can cross my legs now and tie my shoes and my daughter can put her arms completely around me now. Merritt

It is SOOOOOOO good to hear that others are going through what Im going through! I thought I was alone! I am now 7 months out and have lost 112 lbs...so GREAT journey for me! I just didnt think I would stop at 181 lbs.... I love my size now. But I AT LEAST wanted to get to Docs goal of 175, let alone my own goal of 150. I am frustrated and discouraged. I have gone back to basics and started measuring again. I work out 5 days a week and drink all I need to. But to no avail. The last month has produced NOTHING for a loss. And it scares me for the upcoming months. Overall it sure feels good to know that I am not the only one that this is happening to! Guess just keeping my chin up is the only way to get through it! Thanks for letting me vent! Ashli 293/181/150
