Feel any different yet?

This may sound really odd or even idiotic to some. But, do any of you *feel* different after weight loss? My surgery was on July 26, 2004 and I have lost a total of 87lbs (last weigh-in with general doctor) and see my surgeon for the 6 month check-up in February. But, I "feel" the same as I did 87lbs ago. I mean, I notice that I have less aches and pains and the sort. It is when I look at myself I do nto see any difference. Ihave gone down 1 size in pants and pretty much 3 sizes in shirts. That is the only way that I have noticed it. When I look in the mirror I still see myself as I was 87lbs ago. I do not notice a change, in my mind so to speak. I do not like the way I looked then and still do not. Everyone sees the changes, but I am jsut now seeing a few "small" changes. Not as huge as others do. Has any else felt like this? Or am I just overly paranoid and "sad" for lack of a better word. Lisa Surgery date: 26 July 2004 343/256 -87

I was just thinking about this a few days ago, but it was in regards to my husband. He has lost 190 pounds, give or take afew, and he looks the same to me. I mean, he's slim now, but he's the same ole guy a married. I was just looking at his face one night and thinking that he was the same. Personally, I physically feel the same, and some days I feel fat while others I feel pretty darn sexy. But even at my heaviest, I had those feelings, too. Congrats on your weight loss--you're doing better than I am pounds-wise. I've lost ~65 pounds since 7/6. But, I've gone from a tight 22/24 to a loose 18. I squeezed into 16s today. A little snug--reminds me of my fatter days when I would be wishing my pants weren't so tight, but I'm not complaining one bit! I read from someone on OH some very wise words. "Remember, this surgery was on your stomach, not on your head." It will take a long time for your mind to catch up to your body. Best Wishes Diana

Thanks!! I do the same think with a friend of mine. So, I understand how it is with your husband. Yeah, sometimes I think I need the surgery on the head as well.

Hi Lisa....I do and I dont feel the same. When I look in the mirror after a shower I dont see much change. But when I put on clothes there is dramatic difference. I was a 30-32 in pants and now a 22-24 and even a 18-20 in stretchy pants. I was a 3x in tops and now a 1x. Even my underclothes have changed sizes dramatically. But I feel great when people have not seen me in a while and rave over the way I look now. Some people do not even recognize me. My 2 biggest thrills is I can wear jeans again and also fit comfortably in a booth. My biggest fear is I will stop loosing and not see the 100s again like I really want to do. Mostly, I feel the same as I always did. Like a big blob of flab. And of course, at 274 lbs, that IS what my body consists of. Every once in a blue moon (I used that term yesterday and my daughter wanted to know why the moon turned blue!), I actually feel like I'm making progress. I know that I move so much better now, and my body feels healthier. But gosh darned that mirror! It comes along and takes the fairy tale away, and I'm that same old blob again. Maybe after the next 75lbs... Pamela 352/274/263 by V-Day

All I know is that when I started this journey at 270lbs I felt terrible.I couldnt move, and it was hard to even breathe. I see and feel a dramatic difference in my appearance. I feel that this was the best thing I ever did...ya know something just for me. My husband is loving it too... He keeps telling me it feels like hes having an affair. I can really enjoy sex again. Before I couldnt even move. I kinda just layed there...lol Anyways...OMG Yes...Yes...Yes. I feel like a new person! ~Debra

Lisa, I would have to say that I feel VERY different than I did in July 2004. I have so much more energy - I used to nap every chance I got - now, I have no time for naps!! I enjoy my walks and my exercise, something this former couch-potato would never say before! I breathe better. My knees, ankles and back feel so much better. I also feel much better about myself in general. This feeling is radiating to other parts of my life. I am more patient with my sons and more easygoing all around. I am off of my high blood pressure meds as well as my high cholestrol meds. I look different, and I would hope, better. I'm taking more of an interest in my appearance, which I didn't do before. Have you taken any pictures of yourself that you can compare to pictures pre-surgery? Sometimes that's a great way to see the difference!! Hugs, Nancy -86

"I'm taking more of an interest in my appearance," This is so true. I rarely go out without make up now. And, I actually care what clothes I put on. That makes everyone who has to look at me very happy.
