Doing right-wrong
I am really trying, I promise I am....
I am trying so hard to do the right thing-but...
It just turns out wrong ....
I need a little help so I have posted this twice..bare with a fellow loser (yes, I am proud of my weight loss)..... but at the same time--
I have had the hardest time doing the right thing..... I am 8 weeks post op AND I hit a plateau every WEEK and it last a week. For example, I lose 2 pounds and just sit on that 2 for about a week or so, then lose 1 more pound and again it takes another two weeks before it budges and sometimes it goes up instead of down!!!! I can't seem to get in the protein with food. Nutritionist rec. 70g a day.... and I can't stomach the protein drinks. I have wasted SOOO MUCH money pouring them down the drain.... I eat eggs, tuna, beef, cheese, um. lets see.... I eat the wrong things. I can eat chips (just a few-so I try beef, cheese, olives and thats it).. I went to Popeye's and bought the small cajun rice (dirty rice) and ate 1/2 of it one day and other for lunch today. Not to mention the soft taco (I've had two so far (within the past 3 weeks) but I don't eat the shell. The protein bars are way too sweet and full of so many carbs. .... I think my weight loss keeps reaching a stalemate due to my lack of proteins.... AND.... I thought I was really working out (all the walking I do at work) but when I tried walk off the pounds I couldn't last 5 minutes.... UUGHHHH............ I have written out a schedule so many times, but when you can only eat 3-4 oz at a time (and that is really pushing it) HOWWWW do you get the protein if you can't take the drinks? What about carbs?
OH, did I mention that when I look in the mirror I still see huge... Do you think that, that will ever change? (It just reminds me of people with eating disorders who no matter how thin they get (and I am no where close to thin) they still see themselves as huge....... I have issues right now

Doll,
Congrats on the weight you have lost...40 lbs is nothing to laugh at!
Just a comment about getting your protien in...if you are in the 3rd stage (solid foods)....which I would guess you are...and if you can drink milk, try Simply Smart milk...it has 10 g of protien in every cup. My doc says we can drink up to 2 cups of milk products a day. That would be 20 grams of protien. If you don't use Simply Smart fat free milk, be careful...most other milks have less protien. Hope this helps.

I'm going to echo the last poster. I have never gotten the protein in until this week, when I started drinking 2-3 cups of Carb Countdown milk every day. It has 12g protein in every cup and not much fat and very few carbs. I'm with you, I got so sick even smelling the protein shakes and I could only get 1/2 of a bar down so those were just not options for me. The CC milk is a bit spendy but it's not nearly as expensive as the shakes. I paid 3.35 for 1/2 gallon last night and that'll be about 3 days worth of protein for me so that's like 1.10ish for my protein "shake" for those days as opposed to trying to gag down 2 shakes at $2.50 or more...it's worth it to me. And since it's not really milk (it's a dairy beverage) it doesn't hurt if you're lactose intolerant like me...
Just for kicks I thought I'd post what I had yesterday:
1/2 C Atkins Almond Crunch Cereal (75 cals, 1 fat, 6 carbs-fiber, 11 g protein)
2 cups of CC milk (200 cals, 9 fat, 6 carbs, 24 protein)
2.5 oz albacore tuna (100 cals, 1 fat, 0 carbs, 19 protein) with 1t malt vinegar and salt/pepper
2 string cheese (168 cals, 10 fat, 2 carbs, 14 protein)
.5 oz beef jerkey--bad choice! (25 cals, 2 fat, 1 carbs, 2 protein)
Insides of Taco Bell burrito supreme (220 cals, 13 fat, 16 carbs, 12 proteins)
for a total of 788 cals, 36 g fat, 31 carbs, 83 g. protein. My fat percentage was pretty high but at least I got the protein in! I have to eat out a lot because of my schedule so I do Taco Bell. Of course there are better choices than others at restaurants and sometimes we make good ones and sometimes not so much. I'm trying to stick to proteins, no carbs and lower fat if I can (though that's not a huge priority for me since we malabsorb fats.)
My own problem is eating even when I'm not hungry. That's what got me into the position of having to have the surgery! I will eat something even if I know it will make me sick or take one more bite even if I'm full. Dumb, I know. Yesterday was good. I know it sounds cliche, but I have decided I can only make good choices one decision at a time so that's how I'm trying to do it.
Well since I'm ramblin now I'll stop! Very best wishes to you, congrats on the great losses so far!

Thanks.....
For the first time since my surgery --- without guessing and actually measuring and doing the right time-- I DID IT
This is what I did:
1 egg-scrambled (little milk but I didn't count that) 7 g
Carb Countdown milk 1c 12g
1 oz beef jerky 10g (its the soft kind that comes in a bag--looks like bark)
1 peach---well 1/2 peach (fresh and no probs )
FEW chips with 1/4c of cheese 7
OK.....
1/4c cheese over 1/4c of refried beans 10g
(repeated that later tonight) = 10g
another cup of milk 12g......
68g It's not 70g but my goodness it was close.....
Now if I drink one more 16 oz bottle of water I will have done that too.......
After re-evaluating this diet--I can see I need to tweek it since I didn't have any veggies at all......
oh...I had 1 TBS of peanut butter and that brings me over 70.....BUT I bet my cal's are high!!!!!!!!!.........
Thanks for the advice--- see I do listen
AND I do get the exercise.. it will take time... I am patient
SOMETIMES
I do 50g of protein every day, and I don't use protein supplements because I just can't stomach them. I eat a lot of tuna, which is very high in protein. I also eat string cheese wrapped in Oscar Mayer deli-sliced turkey. I eat extra lean ground beef (I don't like the ground turkey...I tried!), and I do eat bread and pasta. My choices aren't always the best, but I stay under 900 calories, and get in all my protein. Basically, I eat what a "normal" person would eat, except I stay away from added sugar. I don't count carbs, and for the most part, I seem to be following a South Beach type of diet.
As for exercise...that will come with time. Your body is used to walking at work, but walking for cardio is something entirely different. The first time I walked, I could only do 10 minutes at a snail's pace. Now, I'm up to 30 minutes and walking a 24-minute mile (which is still slow). I've also been lifting weights for my arms. It took me a while to build up to this, so just keep plugging away at it, and you'll be able to handle it.
