Any advice for a newbie; I'm a little down
Hi, I'm feeling a little discouraged. Today is exactly 1 month post-op and I've lost 28 lbs. I've been reading a lot of posts and it seems as though I should have lost more by now. I am getting in my protein and walking on the treadmill every day. I'd appreciate hearing from any of you. I'm home alone all day for at least two more weeks. I'm going a little stir crazy. Thanks.
Roni
Welcome Roni!! 28 lbs at 4 weeks is awesome!! I am 8 weeks and I have lost 24 lbs. By 3 weeks, I was down 15 lbs and, like you, I was discouraged. When I went to my dr, he told me that total weight lost doesn't matter. What matters is the % of excess weight lost. Figure this out by taking your total weight lost and divide it by your excess weight. Multiply this by 100
Total weight lost
---------------- x 100
Excess weight
This will give you a % of weight lost. By this time, it should be about 11%. A little more or a little less is OK.
Roni,
It's like the rest of them have said... 28 lbs. is fantastic! Take it as a % not as a number. Your doing great.
I am alone too and I know how that can get you down. Keep chatting online and make a few calls to friends and family. Do a little out door walk (weather providing). Hey! Check out how your underwear fit. Nothing makes me laugh more than putting on those over sized undies... Heck, I'm going to have to cut arm holes in mine... they've become "allover wear"
Hi Roni,
You're doing great! 28 pounds in a month is awesome. I'm right in line with you, am a month out, and 30 pounds down. It is discouraging to read people's posts that have lost much more by this time. But, everyone is different and all of us will lose differently. I just keep telling myself that there is not way I could have lost this much weight in one month on a standard "diet." Just think, if you continue losing at this rate, by the end of your second month you'll have lost 56 pounds and that is a lot!
Hang in there and god bless,
Shannon
Hi Roni...I'm 1 month post-op and have lost 22 lbs....so I think you're doing great! I'm happy with my 22 pounds. We're all different -- different ages, different starting weights, different life-styles, so we're all going to lose differently. Hang in there! At this point, the only way to go is DOWN!!!!

Hi, Roni,
I know I am going to sound like an echo here, but you are doing great! I'm a little over a month out and have lost about 15 lbs, plus 11 before the surgery. Everyone is different...it will come off. And remember, those 28 pounds will never come back!
28 lbs may not seem like much...but go lug 28 lbs of flour around for an hour and you will see just how much you have really lost.
Good luck!
