OK Question for the last few days I have had uncomfortable but bareable lower back pain? I think it may be due to no BM's (sorry)... I go only once a week. I take benefiber and it doesn't help (it did work the first 2 days but now its like my body had built up a tolerance......) CAN someone help me out... What can I eat to help IT out? Should I call the Dr. ? THANKS THANKS THANKS

I take milk of magnesia, doctors suggestion, because I get pains in my bowels if I don't have a bm every other day. Its works.

MOM is great when you're really *blocked up*....you can also use metamucel and colace...both are approved by most doctors. Hope you feel better soon...I know how rough that can be As for the back pain..I get that regardless of BMs...lol Linda

If you take fiber, you need to make sure that you drink a lot of water with it, otherwise it will become hard, dry and difficult to move. I recently saw a post on the main board where someone mentioned a product called Smooth Move tea, sold at GNC. She claimed a cup at nite was wonderful for getting things moving. I have had lower back pain, but for me, it's not the bm thing. I notice it most when I stand still, and I suspect it's from my stomach pulling on my lower back, and my changing center of gravity. irene

I had the same problem..I found that now that I am able to tolerate eating raisins and sunflower seeds..thats all that I do and it seems to keep me regular. I have heard alot of people taking flaxseed and oil. I prefer the natural substances rather than the over counter drugs..but Whatever you find works use it! val

I was having aweful cramping in my lower left side. My Doctor said it was my colon and advised me to take Colean, 2x's a day. It is kind of expensive which is why I take the Happy Harry's brand, but it is working like a charm. Maybe your Dr. will be able to give you better suggestions. ~Shelly

I have had back pain too from the lower right side. I do have regular BM's though so I don't think that is it!

I was just at the surgeon today for my 4 week checkup. He asked about BM's, and I told him it was a problem. He told me to use the stool softener Colace, as mentioned in another post. He also approves Milk of Magnesia, which I tried and it worked very well (although the regular formula tastes really nasty). I got the Walgreens brand of Colace and it was much cheaper. I plan to start using it and see if it helps. Jules

I am right there with you sister. I had my surgery on 7/8 and I have the same problem. It sucks!! I am going to try MOM, but I am wondering if you cramp or anything. I have always had this problem and I already tried the colace, since I used that before surgery and the doc said it was ok. But, after I used it, I had cramping and felt really sick. Good luck and I hope you get some relief soon. (((HUGS)))
