QUESTIONS
HI, ALL. JUST A QUICK QUESTION. I HAD MY SURGERY JULY12TH. THIS IS MY 6TH WEEK OUT. I HAVE LOST 54LBS.GREAT I KNOW. I AM CONCERNED THAT I AM STILL NOT ABLE TO EAT PROTIEN. SUCH AS CHICKEN,TUNA,FISH,ETC. WITHOUT IT GETTING STUCK OR COMING BACK UP. I JUST WANTED TO KNOW HOW EVERYONE ELES IS DOING. FEEDBACK PLEASE.
THANKS SERITA
I haven't had any problem with meat so far, except that the first couple of bites sit kind of funny for a minute or two. Start with the tuna...it's pretty mushy and VERY high in protein. Make sure that you are taking small bites and chewing your food well (especially things like meat), because you'll pay for it. Believe me, I'm an expert on eating too fast!
I'm right there with you. The only meat I have tried is SPAM, and that was because I could really ma**** up. I also tried imitation crab and lobster with a little miracle whip added. I've tried chicken but it really feels like its gonna get stuck so I just stop after one or two teeny tiny bites. It's frustrating. And ground hamburger is not an option. Way too hard to chew up well enough. I thought about getting a Jenni-O Turkey roast. I have kinda gave up on meats right now. I had baked fish one night and swear I got it stuck and it took a whole day of not being able to keep anything down, not even water to finally feel better.
I am just sticking to the easy stuff for a while.

When I first started back on solid food I am sure I was eating too fast and probably not chewing well enough. Through the liquid and puree stages I measured everything very carefully and had no problems. But did not measure the solids for the first week. After a couple of "epidsodes" with chest pains, etc I started measuring everything.... it has helped a lot. Nutritionist said we should be able to do 6 oz. but that in the beginning 4oz are okay. So for now I am doing 4 oz. Usually a combination of protein and a carb (veg or fruit).
If you continue to have the problem, you should contact your surgeon, you may have a stricture and need to have it dialated.
Hey Serita...you & I are surgery twins!! I called my doctors office just today with the same problem. The only protein I get is from protein shakes, cheese & yogurt. I too tried chicken, tuna, fish...I come to the conclusion that they don't like me. One of the ladies that works for my surgeon had wls last year & she is great at answering questions. I think all surgeons should hire a few former patients...they are great for pre & post-op advice. She said to continue the shakes until my pouch was ready, but to keep trying solids. She said eventually it will get better. I had a stricture at 4 weeks out so I know that's not the problem. I'm just not interested in solid food at this point.

P.S. Congratulations on that weightloss girl!! That is awesome!!!
Hey,
I found fish to be the hardest for me. For some reason it feels too dry going down. I ended up boiling my chicken in a crock-pot initially and making up a cheese sauce (little skim milk and fat free cheese) I would dip the chicken in this. It was good and that feeling of oh no.... it feels like it is going to get stuck or too dry cleared up immediately.
Since then, I do regular chicken baked. I still do a sauce (brown gravy, marinara, or something), which keeps the chicken moist and easy to digest.

WOW! Congrats on the huge weight loss!.... I had that problem with CHICKEN I don't even touch it now... I did realize that when I eat too fast I get the stuck...help.. my chest is on fire feeling...
I do get a little upset to the stomach after I eat and that + the after taste really bothers me.... But I will have to do better........... Try salmon (it comes prepackaged) or even add a little low fat mayo to your tuna to make it as moist as possible.... Have you tried beef or chicken?
