Hey July WLS Family!!! I'm down 25 lbs from my presurgery weight. My diet is awful though. I'm eating alot of scrambled egg, cottage cheese and protein shakes. I haven't been keeping a food log, just kinda mentally making note of the protein mgs (supposed to be 60 - 70). Yesterday I got brave and prepared a 4 - 5 oz ground hamburger patty (98% fat free) and was able to comfortably eat about half. Three hours later when I had the cottage cheese it came right back up. So I went back to just protein shakes last night and this morning and for lunch I tried some scrambled egg and it came right back up. Do you think meat stays in the pouch longer because it's harder to digest?

I have heard that lots of people don't start ground beef for a few months, and then again, I have heard of people eating it after a couple of weeks. We are all on trial and error at this point in time. I tried eating some tilapia fish (mild white fish) a couple of nights ago and my pouch didn't like it at all!! It wanted to throw it right back up, but I couldn't . Tonight I tried Spaghetti-O's with meatballs and no problem. I'm still on pureed foods, but I'm allowed to start incorporating regular food next week. I'm just going to take it slow - there's no rush and at this point, nothing I'm really craving. We'll get the hang of it!! Hugs, Nancy

My surgeon says there is not enough acid in our pouches to digest beef or pork at this point. I am not allowed to have pork or beef for six months. I'm like you, I'm very tired of mashed potatoes, scrambles eggs and yogurt.

I am not much further then you (4 weeks). I think it is more individual... I kept hearing how great tilapia was for us - ate it and it promptly came right back up. (PROMPTLY - barely made it to bathroom!) Sometimes I can eat chicken and sometimes I can't... I have eaten eggs about 6 times - 2 times with sucess and 4 times without sucess. Have you tried refried beans???They are my savior! String cheese - tiny bites and chew it a lot....(I also melt it in the microwave and eat it that way!)

Ive been doing the pureed food phase and trying to be as diversified as possible. I have only been doing it for about a week and half and I have been careful NOT to incorporate too many new foods at a time. I love the refried beans- but I top it with soy cheese ( yummy)- I have also pureed salmon and tuna and added fat free mayo- ( but it has to be very very pureed)- Also did some bean soups or veggy soups pureed- those work very well too. Some of the baby food veggies are ok too if you add salt to them. Anyway I can't eat more than about 3 oz of each thing and then I get full. ( Or at least I think its full). So far I haven't vomited ( and I am very grateful) I think it is my fear of throwing up that has kept me on the straight and narrow. For now, though I am bored, and would love to eat something more solid I am just trying to live with it. I think trying things that are too hard for our little pouches to digest this soon is way too scary for me. I'll wait it out, thank you!

Are you sure that you should be having Ground beef this early??..be careful on items like that so soon , unless your Surgeon has approved it for your food list. At 2 weeks out I was still on Full liquids and I am just now starting to eat ground beef. I didnt start on Scrambled eggs until 3 weeks out. Just be careful! Val
