I can eat too much!!!!
I had Lap RNY on 7/1 and with the program I went through..the do not have you on the liquid diet, except for in the hospital. I have been eating pureed then soft foods since about day 4. I can eat a 6oz container of Dannon Fit n Lite at one sitting and even the whole Healthy Choice meal (Turkey and mashed potaotes)! This does not seem right...I feel like I did this for no reason. I still only get about 600 calories a day...but from things that I have read...I shouldn't even be able to eat 3 ozs. yet!! I have only lost 16 pounds and I am getting quite discouraged. Why is it like this????
Average day:
Breakfast: 6 oz Yogurt
Snack: Protein bar
Lunch: 1/2 Turkey wrap (turkey,cukes,g peppers,onions)
Dinner: Shrimp taco with ff cheese

I don't know, Jeanne, I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum. I had my surgery on 7/19 and I'm still on clear liquids!! I won't be able to taste food until Monday!!
If you don't feel right about how much you can eat, why not call your surgeon and ask if they have any protocol?
Hope you can get it sorted out...
Hugs,
Nancy
Hi Jeanne-
I hope I can help you a little bit...
I am just over 3 weeks post op so you have one week on me. Based on what you wrote I think you might be eating too many carbs and not enough protein. Carbs fill you up VERY temporarily where protein fills you up for longer stretchs of time. Also, those protein bars are HIGH in carbs!
My menu:
4 oz protein shake for bfast (fills me up for about 4 hours)
Either Egg salad, grilled chicken, tuna with little mayo for lunch (about 2 ozs)
Chili, hamburger, etc for dinner (again about 2 ozs)
If needed, 1/2 protein shake for snack
I am getting about 75 grams of protein in a day. I am not eating any carbs at all.
Are you keeping a food journal? It really helps you understand exactly what you are eating. Go to fitday.com It is a great website that you can track your food on and it will put in all of the nutrition information for each food.
Also, drink, drink, drink and drink more water! This is the MOST important thing to do. Right now I am drinking 67.6 ounces a day. That also fills you up!
Hope this helps!

I want to just add to what Dawn has said...
People have to be very careful with *fat free* foods...they tend to have more sugar, and after this surgery, sugar is the bigger enemy, not fat...it's pure carbs.
Also for anyone reading this who drinks Gatorade...it is loaded with sugar...Powerade is the better choice, especially their XLT drinks, they are 50% less sugar, but give the same replacement of electrolytes.
Jeanne, I tend to feel that at times I can eat more than I would have thought I should be able to, but luckily the weight is still coming off, I think it's all in my mind, a slight paranoia about being the one person this doesn't work for. I'm following along with my dr's recomendations...only a couple small things that maybe aren't written on the schedule but it's still food, and isn't all that bad...not like I'm eating candy bars! lol
Talk to your doctor and see what he thinks...but I do agree with Dawn, you're getting far too many carbs and not enough protein..
My biggest problem now is not getting enough veggies...but I'm working on it. My protein is up since I found this great whey powder...and my water is getting better.
Good luck...I hope things work out for you.

It's Sisu Body Elite whey powder. Gives you 26.4 grams of protein per scoop, which you can add to any juice you like...or milk, or put it in foods.
It has basically no flavour of it's own, so it's great.
If you're looking for protein powders, look for ones marked *isolate*, they give you more grams of protein per serving.

No offense...but...WHOO HOO! Another slow loser! I'm five days behind you, and I have only lost about 16lbs. When I was on vacation last weekend, we ate out a lot and even though I didn't eat much, I was definitely low on protein, so that may be why I'm stuck. I don't know.
As for being able to eat 3oz...I was told by the surgeon to eat about 4oz at each sitting, although my nutritionist says 1/2 cup. And yogurt isn't exactly a solid food, so maybe it goes down a little easier (same with mashed potatoes). Also, when are you drinking your liquids? If it's too close to when you eat, everything washes out quicker.
I am one year post op and I have found that consistency on your food items does make a difference...Yougurt is easier to do 6 oz of than let's say 2 oz of tuna etc... Sometimes I feel like I eat too much too. I am at one cup of food and sometimes can not eat all of that but it does depend on consistency.
I was eating way less calories at the time frame you are now. I keep a food diary still to watch calories protein and I have added fat content now I must keep this at 33 grams or less.
Check with your nutritionist and see if you are doing okay, she should be able to guide you on what isnormal and not especially if she is associated mainly with WLS patients. Hope this helps. I am at 167 pds loss at one year.
You'll be able to eat more of the soft foods - My doc has us eating about 6 ounces after 4 weeks, and then 1 cup after 8. You are just a little ahead of schedule if you are eating a whole healthy choice meal, but that may be because half of it is mashed potatoes that go down easy. I think your diet is fine, maybe just up your protein grams - your body may be in starvation mode, which can happen more readily if you're low on protein.
Best wishes!!!
