4 days post op- I have questions.. please help!
Hi everyone.. I just got home yesterday from the hospital. I am doing great.. a little pain but with the pain medicine gets better. I guess I am still on the same clock as I was in the hospital since I am still getting up every two hours to walk and do my respiratory exercises. I walk for about 10-15 minutes every 2 hours. I cant stand to sit for much longer than that. Today I am finally going to try to sleep at my bed since Ive been sleeping at the recliner since after surgery.. hope I wont hurt.
I dont know if I am drinking enough!!! Please someone judge and let me know if I am doing this OK.
for my first meal I had 4oz of protein (EAS ready to drink the whole bottle 11 oz has 15 grams of protein so I had only 1/3 of it) with 3oz of yogurt which I got and made an smothie. It helps the taste to improve. then I had a popsicle
for the 2nd meal I had some cream soup about 3 oz and another popsicle.
for the 3rd meal I had another protein smothie 5oz protein and 3 oz liquid yogurt
for the 4th meal I had another protein smothie same as the one before.
I am thinking for dinner i will just have some broth and probably more protein.
IS THIS OK??
I feel like I cannot get enough protein!! Ive been drinking that all day and I barely have about 20-25 grams and I am supposed to have 45 grams a day. I am getting tired of drinking the same. Maybe I just got the wrong type of protein??? Someone please make suggestions???
I ve been also drinking some gatorade between meals and some lemonade (Cristal light)
I have not been hungry at all.. I am really forcing myself to drink something every 2-3 hours.
ANy help would be greatly appreciate it

Wish I could help you Emma, but I'm still on a clear liquid diet. I am also very jealous of all the food you can eat!!
I'm averaging about 40 oz of fluids per day because I'm only allowed 4 oz per hour. Twice a day I drink 6 oz. of skim milk mixed with 1 scoop of Isopure 0 carb protein powder. That gives me about 63 grams of protein per day right there...maybe you need a better protein source??
Glad you did well with surgery, and I'm sure there will be someone to help you....
Hugs,
Nancy
Congrats!! I had my surgery on 7/8/4 and I am just now getting some normal foods added from my docs list. I use Unjury and it provides 28 grams of protein per 8 oz, mixed with milk. Unjury tastes great too! You can order it at www.unjury.com. Also, my doctor advises against having liquids with meals (even shakes) I personally get sick if I try to even take a sip of liquid with my meal. Sounds like you are doing ok to me. Oh also, Unjury has unflavored protein powder, mixes great with soups, potatoes, pudding and just about anything I have added it to. You don't even know that its there. Sweet!! Take care and good luck!! Tami
Thank you for your comments! I will look in to those proteins you mentioned I think that is my main problem just a bad choice on protein. As of now I have not mixed any solids and liquids... I am on a liquid diet for 3 weeks and so far what I have got is on the list the doctor gave me. Actually he is the one *****commended me to make smothies. BUt he didnt really tell me how many ounces per hour I should drink. I am confused now. Am I getting too much? I think I average about 7 or 8 oz on every meal which is every 2 hours. I am just so scared that I wont lose as I am supposed to ;o(
Welcome home Emma,
When I was going home, the nursing staff and my Doc explained not to consume more than 1 oz p/half an hour, but that was the day I left. Your body will tell you how much is comfortable. If still not sure, ask your doctor.
An 8oz liquid meal (smoothie) is just what I was doing, and in my notes on the different food stages, it says just try not to go over 8oz liquid per hour. Do what feels comfortable, just don't feel you need to do sooo much right away.
I am currently 10 days post-op & have lost 21 pounds. Everyone's body is different, so we all lose at a different rate, but know this Emma, have faith, you WILL LOSE WEIGHT!!!
I agree with one of the previous replies, make better protien choices as far as your smoothies go. ISOPURE ZERO CARB CREAMY VANILLA is a shake you can make with water or milk, and 2 scoops (1 serving) equals a whopping 50 grams of protien!!! I have been mixing mine with 1/2 water & 1/2 milk, a spoon of frozen unsweetened berries, or a small piece of sugar free chocolate cookie chopped up & crushed ice for a cookies & cream flavor...yummy!
I ALWAYS drink one of those shakes a day as a meal. My other protien sources are 3oz of pureed tuna salad, shrimp salad, lobster tail or egg salad, or light cottage cheese 2X p/day always mixed with Designer whey natural, flavorless & odorless protien powder (18.5 grams of protien p/scoop).
Just yesterday alone I consumed 91 grams of protien!!!
Good luck! I am rooting for you!
