Hospital Upfront Fees

Hello everyone!!! I was just wondering if any of you can help me out with a couple of questions I have. When I had my pre-op testing the woman at the registration desk told me that I was going to pay the 10% of my portion upfront. I told her I was used to getting billed and then paying for things through my insurance. My max out of pocket is 1500. Insurance co said if Dr. Wongsa files first he will get the 1500 and hospital will get what ever Aetna pays them and vice versa if hospital pays first. Should I just tell the hospital that my insurance told me not to pay anything upfront? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Amy

I had to pay upfront fees and then if there is an overage after all has been submitted to my ins they will send me a check. Apparently this has become common as of last year, some ins companies don't pay all the fees and the drs were stuck with unpaid bills. Just some info for you.

Oh wow, we have surgery on the exact same date! Anyway, I have to pay up front too! It is approximately 1600.00 copay. I go for my preop test on the 1st of July.
