I will be having surgery on July 2 and am very nervous. I wonder about lots of things. Like am I going to loose my hair? Will I be throwing up all the time? Will I ever be able to eat normal food or will I be drinking liquids for the rest of my life? The big question is am I doing the right thing or not? I just pray that I am. If anyone has any good words to help me with all these questions feel free to reply to this mailing and help make me feel better about the whole process. You know we can always use plenty of moral support. If I can help anybody please let me know. Bye for now!

Hi Leary Congrats on your date, and being nervous is perfectly normal. My date is the 27th, my nerves are ok for now, Im keeping myself busy buying things Im going to be needing and reading everything I can on this site. Have you been attending any support groups in your area? I go every month and they are wonderful. Im told that yes, I will lose some hair, it starts between the 3rd and 6th month. Keep the protein up and it won't be as bad. And, it will grow back! I have met many post ops, not one of them has any regrets. They eat anything and everything, just small amounts of it. Protein supplements after a period are an option, as long as you take in enough protein thru good food choices. The best thing is every post op I've met feels fantastic. Prior health issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes, apnea, all gone or well under control. That alone keeps me driving towards the losing side. I want to feel good, and be around along time. Feel free to email me anytime.. and please, join a support group. They are the only ones that understand what you are going through. Robin

Hey Leary, I am right there with you in regard to nerves! But this site has been great at putting my mind at peace. You can take some vitamins pre op that will help with hair loss. In fact, some post ops stated that they had no hair loss and attributed that to the vitamin Biotin. Please read my previous post about vitamins I think I titled it hello July club. Yes, you will be able to eat food again. You should check out the main page, each day post ops do a thread titled what are you eating today! That will give you a good guage as to what you will be able to do. Some people can eat anything after 6 months. Those people are also the ones who have a harder time keeping the weight off because the do not get sick or what is termed dump! Others dump on suger and bread, some can take a few bites and are ok, other cannot take any. This sometimes depends on if you will have proximal or distal RnY. Distal is usally reserved for people with very high BMI like 60 and above. Those people usually dump at the smell of suger (being funny, but get my point) where proximals can tolerate it more, some more than others like I said. Would love to keep in touch, I hope this helps. But like I said, I have my good and I have my bad days. See you on the loosing side, Tonia
