Topic: RE: What to take with me and items to buy before hand ?
Hi I just had my surgery on the 15th of July and I took a bunch of things that I didn't use as well. But the few that I did were, Chapstick, a CD player in case you have an annoying neighbor in your room , slippers, brought my own gown, never wore it. The hospital ones that they gave us were nice and roomy and just as comfy as something from home. I would diffently say a little hand held fan that runs on batteries. I was finding that although the air was blasting, I was still warm from the morphine I guess. All of the nurses kept saying it is freezing in here aren't you cold. Oh well. I was also told to bring a baby spoon by a friend of mine that had surgery two years ago and let me tell you that was a good idea. I found that it made you not eat to much at once. Those are my suggestions. If you don't take all of them, I would at least say the FAN is the most important. If you can find one that stands on its own, we got one at Brookstone a few years ago and it was great. Best wishes to you. Jennipher

Hi Julie, I know that scared feeling all too well. I had my WLS on the 9th and it was not nearly as bad as I had thought it was going to be. I want you to know also what you are feling is NORMAL. Let me repeat that. What you are feelling is NORMAL. You have made the hardest already. That is the decision making that you have to do to agree to having this surgery. I will pray for you as I know that prayer does change things. Your WLS friend...Brenda from Apopka, FL

Topic: RE: 4 days to go... woohoo
Hi Paula, I am so proud of you!!!I know how hard it is to make this decision to change your way of life forever. I had my WLS on the 9th and I doing just fine. I want you to know that the first 2 days are the hardest to get through. After that it is smooth sailing. You will be sore but not in dire pain, not that I was at anytime. Take your pillows with you, a good pair of slippers, (you will be doing alot of walking) and anything else that will make your stay more comfortable for you. I bought a weeks worth of nice gowns to take to the hospital with me and I did not wear a single one. The drain and g-tube insertion sites leak. This drainage will ruin a good gown fast. I wore hospital gowns the whole time I was there and wore a lounger home. I know Tyler very well. I was raised in East Texas and my son lived in Tyler for his first 2 years of college. My son and daughter lived in Nacgodoches for several years and my son graduated from S. F. Austin 2 years ago. We lived in the Waco area for over 20 years and that is where all my family remain. I know that you are going to so just fine and I will include you in my prayers, Because I know that prayer really does change things. Your WLS friend...Brenda from Apopka, FL

Hi Angie, what a great thing, you and your husband are going to be able to have each other on your WLS journey. I had my WLS on the 9th and I am doing great. I had mine done lap also. When you pack to go to the hospital don't forget to take your own pillows, a good pair of slippers, (you will be doing a bunch of walking after surgery) and you don't need to pack a bunch of pretty gowns. I found out that the drain and g-tube leak around the insertion site. This gunk (no other name for it) will stain your good gowns. I wore the hospital gowns and wore a comfortable lounger home from the hospital. We live about 90 miles from the hospital that I was in. I guess thats all I can remember that were major biggies about what to do at the hospital to make sure you are prepared. I will keep you and your husband in my prayers, because I really do believe that prayer changes things. Your WLS friend...Brenda from Apopka, FL

Hi Shirley, I'm so glad to here that you are doing well. I had my WLS on the 9th and am doing well also. I'm still really sore, but am able to do more and more each day. I'm like you and only take the pain med at bedtime. I find that I sleep better and feel so much better the next day. I have had 1 setback, I had to go back to the hospital for IV fluids due to electrolyte in-balance. I thought I was drinking enough, but appearantly I wasn't. Lets keep in touch so we can see how each of us are doing. Here's wishing you a very speedy recovery, your WLS friend...Brenda in Apopka, FL

Topic: WLS-date July 28--need good wishes
Hi I am scheduled for WLS on July 28. I know it's really close. Dr. Shawn Garber will perform the surgery at Huntington hospital in Long Island. My husband Danny will have it also on August 21. We are both having it done LAP. I have been reading and sharing with different people on the internet but now that the date is approaching so fast I am getting nervous again. Any positive feedback--little tidbits of what you went through right after surgery, would be a appreciated. You can e-mail directly at [email protected]
