Angie, I had open RNY on 7/2/03, in LA. I was more sore than I thought I would be, but you are having the Lap. You will do great. i didnt have any drains, but had an NG tube in my nose. Just bring things from home, and dont forget your robe and slippers. also if you are in the age range of having your menstral cycle be prepared.. It seems to bring it on early. Goos luck, you'll do great. We all pray for you.

Topic: Need food ideas! Pureed!
Hello all! I had mine done July 14, and all is going well, but I am already sick of the food options I can think of using for the pureed diet. Besides baby food, which has NO calories (very little, I mean) and pureed tuna fish, or refried beans, and other ideas? I am down 18 lbs already! Off to a great start!

Hi Lornell, I had my WLS on the 9th and I have been losing weight on average of a pound a day. I too have had little problem with food and have had trouble getting in the amount of liquids that I should be. I don't ever feel hungry but I do get thirsty. I wish you well and continued success on your journey. Your WLS friend... Brenda from Apopka, FL
Topic: RE: Im approved!!!!!!! Yippee----
Hi Sheila, I think you got your approval faster than anyone I have ever heard of!!!!I had my WLS on the 9th and am doing great. I want to remnd you to take your pillows, a good paor of slippers, (you will be doing a lot of walking after the surgery) and I bought all these cue gowns and didn't wear a single one. The site whee your drain and g-tube will leak for a few days and this will stain your gowns. I just wore hospital gowns til I went home the day after surgery. I wore a lounger home and was very comfortable for the 2 hour drive. I wish you well and I know that you will do just fine. You are in my prayers. Your WLS friend...Brenda from Apopka, FL
Topic: RE: Preop Anxiety
I had my surgery on the 14th and I too had some of the same anxiety everyone is talking about. It's all part of the process. It's okay how you are feeling. I felt that way until the last few days because and that's when my faith kicked in and I knew that I knew all was going to be great.
It also helps to have friends from WLS site to keep reminding you that live will be better on the other side. I won't lie to you and say it's a breaze because it hurts and it different. BUT here's what I love... my husband cooks in our home and the last few evenings he's cooked some of my old time favorites. Nothing no I mean NOTHING!! It smelled great, it looked great but there was not connection there that feeling of I MUST HAVE is gone! That alone is worth it.
I remember laying the hospital bed watching TV and DQ or Culvers (I loved Ice Cream) and I watched it with so much disconnect it was unbelievable. Everyone had told me about how your not hungry and how food just doesn't look the same .. you know what it's true. Now I say praise God for that.
So hang in there it does get better. And if you want to talk just email me and I'd be happy to let you know how I'm doing 1 1/2 weeks Post op.

Hi Vicki, I'm glad you are thru the surgery. I am going for WLS on Monday July 28. I have a question for you. When you wake up in ICU after you come out of sedation, are there any tubes going down your throat or nose?? I have a fear of choking. Ifyou want to e-mail direct it's [email protected] thanks--Angie
Topic: Surgery went well on July 2nd.
I am in my fourth week starting the pureed foods. I found that the liquids 64 oz. is real hard to get in. I average about 55. Food so far has been good to me. I have had a real good recovery and I feel I am doing real well. I am curious though, on an average, how much weight should I have lost the first three weeks. Is 20 pounds good or should I be losing more?
