Topic: First time traveling
Ok, I'm traveling for the first time since surgery and I'm kind of concerned about what I'm gonna eat! I don't eat that much number one, so paying an arm and a legs for something I'm not gonna finish really sucks. I'm still learning what works for me and what doesn't. My question is, should I pack applesauce and eat soup for three days or do you think I can get away with one crab cake with out filler? Shrimp goes down well and i can eat that alone so maybe I'm all hyped up for nothing. I sure don't know.

Ok girls, i might have an explanation, but not that it makes me happy to say it. I read on a yahoo support group, about someone who experienced the same complaints and she couldn't get any answers from her doctor and switched doctors. The new doctor explained to her that her opening from her stomach to her intestines was very big and basically the food empties quickly from her pouch and then shes hungry again. He said it often can be corrected(with surgery) but in this poor persons case it couldn't and she only lost about a fourth of her weight. SCARY!! Now she also complained that she never felt full even while eating so there was no limit to what she could eat. She lost the little bit of weight while on the liquid diet at the beginnig but that was it. I hope to high heaven that is not what anyone is experiencing, but atleast it would explain so we wouldn't blame ourselves. Good luck. Amy

Hi Dominique, My surgery was 7/15/2003 and I've lost 36 pounds. But I agree with the others our bodies are all different. I'm down some sizes on top half but boy oh boy the bottom half is not keeping the same lose pace. My stomach still seems huge to me! Give it time and allow yourself a break, it will come off!

Hey, I had my surgery on july 1, and I was right at 100 lbs overweight. at nine weeks, I had only lost 33, and it makes me discouraged because it seems like everyone else has lost more than me. I've been exercising, but i had introduced some carbs into my diet. I'm going to try to back them off and see if it improves. A few things have gotten way to small, but I had gained so much weight, I had to loose 20 lbs to get into 80% of my fat clothes!. My 18's are starting to get loose, but at this time of the year, it is hard to think about buying new ones. I understand your discouragement, but I figure if I'm eating these tiny amounts compared to what I used to do, I will have to loose weight. Even though my wl doesn't even average to 4 lbs a week (more like 3.5) it is weight I couldn't have lost on my own, and for that I am grateful. Take care and let me know how you are doing after your checkup Lori

Hey Cathy, I hate to hear that your hungry but now I don't feel all alone. My surgery was 8 weeks ago and now I am starving all the time. My stomach keeps grumbling too and feels empty. I try to drink more water and that helps some but I am shocked to physically feel this hungry. It was a few weeks before I felt like this but now all I think about is what to eat. I'm scared that i have stretched my pouch. I've only lost 44 lbs. and only about 12 of those in this month. I am really getting discouraged. I do feel that i'm not getting enough water, but it makes me feel so bloated almost to the point i need to throw up. Let me know if you figure this out and i'll do the same for you. Good luck. Amy

I am 6 weeks post-op and it seems as if I am always hungry! I never had this problem before my surgery and not even my surgeon(Dr. Hoddinott) can give me a clear reason as to why I am feeling this way! It is like I have hunger pains very often and my stomach grumbles! Is there anyone who has experienced this or knows of anyone? I would love to know the remedy to cure my hunger pains or at least know the reason why this occurs!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please let me know! Cathy Skorochod

Ok, sounds like you have a problem that I had, everytime I went on a diet way before WLS was completed.. You my friend are called what is known as a scale watcher.. I was the same way. A friend told me how to get ahold of myself and get over being this way. I took a normal piece of white paper, made a chart on it.. marked Mondays on the top of the page, adding monday dates for a month, marking lines for measurements for arms, bust, hips, thieghs, ankles, calfs. then weight. And every Monday morning I would go into the bedroom, and right after my shower while still naked,I would preform the Monday task of measuring myself and writing it on the chart and weighing myself.. What this did was encourage me in showing me what inches I had lost and how much weight loss in 1 week.. Now there were times I had not lost a pound, not even an ounce, sometimes I had gained a couple pounds however I had loss in inches!! And to occupy myself in the eating and fluid intake I took a notebook and wrote down everything I put into my body, no matter if it was water, juice,or food.. This way I could keep a record of what worked best for me.. Give this a try,I hope this works for you my friend. I turned the scales into my friend this way.. Audrey
