Topic: Any July '03 Bandsters out there?
I had my surgery on 7-16-03. I'm down 78 lb from surgery, 117 overall, and still going strong, with about 70 lb to go.
I can't even begin to say what a difference the loss has made for me. I feel stronger and healthier, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. WLS/Banding was the best thing I ever did for myself, and I'd do it again in half a heartbeat.
There's some beautiful people on this board, and I'm glad I finally made it over here!

Topic: Down 200 pounds!
Just when I think I'm not going to be able to lose anymore weight, a few more pounds come off. 202 pounds off to date with 13 more to go. Good luck and God Bless everyone.

July 30 was my two year anniversary and what a two years it has been! I started out at 268 and lost 120 pounds within the first 12 months. Since that time I have had breast augmentation (which put 6 pounds on) and started on HRT which caused me to gain 12 pounds in 6 weeks. So, it has been a real roller coaster. The doctor has changed my meds and I have lost 4 of the 12 pounds. I am able to eat everything and I know I overdo it on the carbs. I have thought about doing something similar to the Southbeach Diet to just get back to having enough protein in.
My life today is 150 times more enjoyable than it was 2 years ago. Could I be happy if I wasn't able to lose this weight I gained from meds--absolutely, but I know I can do it. So, each day is another step on this journey of a lifetime.
Best wishes to you all..........
Sandy
Topic: RE: HELP!!! I DID NOT LOSE WEIGHT
I went and read your profile and it didnt say what kind of RNY you had so I too am going to ask, what kind of gastric by pass did you have. sometimes the docs only believe in one kind and it is wrong for the patient. sometimes one just needs a different kind or they are not bypassed enough, and maybe need a revision. the thyroid and pituatary problems you have doesnt cause you not to lose weight. go on line to medical sites and type in thyroid or pituatary and read up on it. I for one because of thyroid am a slow loser but am loser even at 2 years out. I did regain 10 pounds when put on some estrogen meds but got off them and got those lbs off. Yes I too am a carboholic and literally have to stay away from white carbs. You do need to have calories in order to make your metabolism work.although you are eating small meals it may not be enough calories to feed your body and even walking will help to start them going. the surgery is a tool and you must do the right nutrition and moving to help make it work. good luck see that doc and mention about checking your mechanics as well. to make sure you dont need a revision.

Wow Julie! Im also 5' 9" and can't imagine 145! I would have laughed in his face too! I started at 306lbs and now weigh 176. My initial goal was just to make it under 200 and when I did that I set my goal to 160. Im not really sure if I will make it or not but just the thinking about that I can wear size 12's now makes me very happy and I dont think about the number anylonger.

Hi Amy,
I have to admit...when the surgeon told me what his weight loss goals were for me - I laughed in his face. At 5' 9", I was supposed to get down to 145lbs!! I am presently at 188lbs (from 340) and am HAPPY with where I'm at.
Sure, I'd like to lose more weight - and I know how to do it; however, I'm just not ready to make that commitment yet (I LOVE CARBS!!).
I guess what I'm trying to say is - what are your goals? Did you have pre-set number in your head that you are trying to reach? Are you happy with the weight loss you've had?? Try to keep it in perspective! You're lost >122lbs!!!! That's saying something right there!!
Hang in there!

Ummm... this may be ill timed, but I will try to respond...
First, DID you have the gastric by-pass? I ask, cause with close to zero weight-loss, it makes me wonder.
As for lettuce... I was told to STAY AWAY from lettuce cause it is too hard to digest, and you DO need to chew it into oblivion...
Your doctor had to have said something to you during your appointments about your lack of weightloss... Did you excersize? What did the doctor say at your lack of loss? Why, after 2 years are you suddenly worried about your lack of loss?
I am not berating... I just would like some more information.
None of us went into this blindly, and we all knew this was a tool to help us start our weight loss...

Congrats on the weight loss!!!! If you can lose 300lbs then 20 more pounds shouldnt be nothing for ya to lose. Good Luck
