Topic: All is great!
I feel almost guilty for feeling so good! It is incredible the progress I've made and the lack of complications. I'm 9 weeks out and have lost 76 lbs. I did manage to lose 23 of those lbs. before the surgery though. I have learned so much from the website of what NOT to do. So I attribute my success to that and to the doctor and ultimately to my Lord. I simply could not afford to have any complications. I'm a single mom of 2 small girls and they depend on me to be healthy. The only setback I have had is not being able to get in enough calories and protein. I'm trying but the protein drinks are not that great (make me gag) and a lot of solid foods are still not going down very easily. I encourage everyone to not compare themselves to me or any other poster but to know what is best for their body and what you can handle. I am glad for any weight loss but am especially pleased with my progress. I don't have any wonderful advise for losing this weight, just following the docs orders and learning to enjoy life instead of so much food! Good luck and God bless to all of you. You can do it!
Topic: RE: Great recipes for those who have a tough time with solids!
Hi Annie. I am 9 weeks postop and have had some difficulty with solids myself. I can tolerate some but have that "stuck" feeling with most. Would love to see your recipes. My email is [email protected] if you could send them. Thank you for your help! - Laura

Congrats to you!!!!! I had open RNY on the same day as you. I have lost 52 lbs as of today. I can't believe that this is happening so fast for me. I thought that I would be one of the slow losers. I don't sleep alot. just 6-7 hrs a day. I would love to take a nap during the day but I am at work 12-8pm. I took a nap around 2pm when I was at home. Sure miss the naps. lol Hope you continue to do so well. Hugs, Paula

I'm so sick of being sick don't know what to do.My surgery was on 7/11 the weight loss has been great, but only because I can't eat, the days when i am not vomiting are slowly coming to an end (i hope) thanks to the compazine suppostories (spelling)now if i can get rid of the acid I'll be alright.
Topic: 7 weeks post op and doing well
My surgery was on July 25, 2003. Lost 16 pounds the first week and now have a total of 45 pounds lost. My one problem is that I need to NOT drink water for at least one hour after eating. When I do so everything seems to back up and I end up vomiting. The surgery went real well and Dr. Di Marco was just great. I'm still extreamily constantly sleeping around 12=15 ;hours a day which really sucks. The doc said that is not unusual and will calm down with time. 45 pounds down and 105 to go.

Hello all! I am glad to hear that there are some like myself. You all seem to be taking it much better than I am. I am 8 weeks out and I have ONLY LOST 21lbs! It is really depressing me and I am trying hard to deal with it. I was giving it 110% effort and still only lost 6lbs in 3 weeks. Since that weigh in I have been messing up BIG TIME. Unfortunately, I do not dump on sugar or fat. Sweets have always been a big weakness for me so I have been grazing on things like cookies and drinking coffee with fat free half and half and about 2 teaspoons of sugar. I have also been eating nuts, which are actually good for you but once I start it is hard to stop and if you eat too many the fat and calories don't take long to add up BIG TIME. I'm not gaining but I surely need to get back on track and really need to see some results when I do. I'm feeling like why did I do this to myself - I lost one and two lbs a week before this surgery! I am also eating way too much salt and retaining water like crazy! If you know how to pray, please pray for me! I know that my faith in God is the only thing that is keeping my mind from going out the window! I may be making myself sound worse than I actually am but I GOTTA' VENT! Thanks for listening or reading. I'm hangin' in here, I have to, after this what else is there! Take Care and God Bless!

Hi Mary-
I had my surgery on 7/9/03 and I saw my Dr. on 9/8/03 for my 2 month check up. Well, I had been having some back problems, and my knee was aching ALOT. My Dr. said this is quite common after the surgery for a few months. Because, as we are losing weight, we are becoming more physically active, which stresses the joints/muscles. He also said that as we lose weight, we are throwing our center of gravity off, so we start sitting different, walking different, standing different, etc. He said this will eventually correct itself, and we should start feeling better!! -Rachel

I had open RNY on July 10th and so far I have lost only 40 pounds some days I'm up a couple or some days I am down a few but seem to come back to the 40 pound mark. From day one, the weight loss has been slow I know I have a very slow metab. and I am almost 50 years old so I take every pound as a gift that I would have never gotten had it not been for this surgery!

Hi Mary, I had WLS July 28 and I am experiencing mid back pain too. I also know that I I have been making my bra tighter from losing 35 lbs already. I have my husband rub my back and sometimes really work the muscles and that seems to help. A chiropractor may help too. Good Luck!
