Topic: I am "NORMAL"
Yipee!! I just figured my BMI....I am no longer overweight!! I am in the normal range!! YEAH!! I am so thrilled. Time to treat myself and do some clothes shopping!! I can't believe it. I can not remember a time in my life that I wasn't officially overweight. My head is spinning from this...I had my surgery in on July 29, 2003. Seven months. Only seven more pounds to my goal. Wow!! I can't believe this. I hate to sound like I am bragging...but it does feel good!!! Your friend in this struggle... Jodi

Have you tried Carb Countdown? It is actually pretty good. It is in the dairy section and it is a Atkins product. I comes in a cardboard milk container. It has 12 grams of protein in 1 cup. I like to slice up a banana and put it in my drink (I get the chocolate). The other night my family made pasta, and I cannot tolerate that yet, so instead I made myself a salad and when I got home drank 2 glasses of the carb countdown - that was 24g of protein - not too bad. Topic: RE: I think I am losing too much
I've often wondered how it will stop and I don't just waste away. I had anorexia in the very early stages postop for about 4 months. But it is pretty normal now and my appetite has returned - tho working out with a personal trainer and watching my diet carefully and am still losing much healthier and slower than at first. My experience with dizzy spells turned out to be dangerously low potassium. Normal is 3.5 -5. Mine was 2.7 and that means the heart is not strong enough to pump blood to the brain, especially if you are warm and the blood vessels are dilated all over your body. I passed out in the shower - danged near killing myself. That was during the anorexia phase of my recovery. So, make sure you tell a doctor and have your potassium checked!! It's very important and dangerous. Lightheadedness is never a normal event. Good luck and I hope this helps some. I take 2 potassium supplements per day and probably will for some time to come.

Hi Kathy: I have found that it is a trail by error process. I have lost 136 lbs since surgery. I am still having difficulity with meat. So, I get my protein from eggs, cheese, soy products, peanut butter, and sometimes fish. My diet goes something like this: Breakfest: Egg with a slice of lowfat cheese and a slice of toast, or Special K and Low fat Milk. Lunch: Cottage Cheese with fruit or cheese and crackers with a V8. Dinner: I do Macaroni and Cheese (Weigh****chers Smart One) Sometimes Soup or Stews about a cup in portion size or sometimes an egg again for my evening meals. I have been able to eat shrimp, baked or broiled fish, crab cakes, with veggies such as green beans, carrots, squash, and tomatos. I consume about 900 to 1000 calories per day and I am keeping up with my protein intake by recording my foods on a website I found called www.FitDay.com It has really helped. I can't eat: beef, pork, chicken, turkey, salads, raw veggies, rice, whole grain breads. Hope this Helps! Randy

Hi Kathy, I pretty much eat anything I want and have since early on. I started eating salads when I was less than a month post-op. Now I eat them on a daily basis. However, being that I CAN eat anything, makes this difficult for me sometimes. When I slip up and eat something that I know I shouldn't, I try to get back on track. There are several things that I can eat but that I try to avoid like pasta and rice. Honestly I don't miss them much. Right now I am following the Atkins Induction because I am getting close to being done and my weight loss slowed way down. I want this weight to hurry and come off. I am a little impatient. My typical day would be: Breakfast: Protein shake Mid-morning snack: BBQ pork skins Lunch: Grilled chicken on a bed a lettuce w/cheese, eggs and regular dressing Afternoon snack: Pickle pinwheel (thick slice of turkey deli meat spread with cream cheese and a pickle rolled up inside) Dinner: Scambled egg with cheese and 3 slices of bacon Snack: BBQ pork skins 13-15 cups of water throughout the day Looking back at that, it seems kind of nasty but it keeps me full and satisfied. It has really helped kick start my weight loss again. I have lost 6 lbs in the last 3 days. Best of luck to you, Michelle -103

HEY Kathy. I eat a lot of chicken....mostly grilled..sometimes baked. Shrimp too. Beef makes me ill tho. I have eaten some veggies like green beans and even carrots and potatoes when I eat homemade stews. I TRY to avoid carb foods, but have tasted some breads and rice. Salads ....on the other hand... I have been afraid of. My doc suggested no carbs until 70% of my extra weight was lost. Easier said than done!! But he is the expert. Congrats on your weight loss and best wishes for success.

Topic: RE: 6 1/2 months and down 130 pounds!
I am just 1 month post op and a 26 lb loser. which I thank Jesus everyday for. I had to have this surgery due to my ostio-arthritis. I couldnt clean my house but maybe 5 min at a time. I will start on my stationary bike in a couple weeks. the hardest thing im having to do now is get my protine in. I know all will come in due time. oh and plus I dont get on a scale every week. it sounds like everyone who does gets upset about it. so i only get on at doctors appts. or once a month. I was like Thank you Jesus when i lost 4 lbs. I know it is silly. But Jesus does right by me... It is Awesome to have such a loving supporter behind you... we will be praying for your hubby . Thanks for posting. Teri
