OMG it is so wonderful to read posts of people at the same "place" as me. Where have I been????? I too worry - I still could not eat a whole subway and certainly not the bread - I just don't eat bread or carbs at all - but I am eating more than I ate early postop and it scares the bejeesus out of me. I am going to try the liquid thing thanks for that suggestion. My lunch consists of 2 slices of deli turkey breast, 1 slice of swiss cheese and 10 grapes every day the same meal. A protein shake with 2 fruits for breakfast and dinner is almost non-existant. Maybe 1 oz of meat and 2 bites of vegies. I should probably go to fitday and start tracking this...so I have more information. I have gotten so casual about it because I know what works and what doesn't! I would say my biggest eating issue now is coffee - I drink it all day long and it cannot be helping me with loss. I really want to lose another 20 and it is like pulling the proverbial teeth. Topic: Another July Newbie
Hi all, July 23, 2003 for me down 171 and 20 more to go - My name is obvious and I am 54 years young now - I used to be a very old lady. But I've bought a Harley and I'm getting my very first tattoo tomorrow - life Rocks these days. Life is great - weight loss is slow - the more time I get postop the more boards I feel I "fit" on. Just thought I'd give this one a try - interesting. I hang on the over 50 and Cali Boards mostly - AMOS is the greatest - it is the best for support. Try to imagine having done the last 10 months without this board. Jeannie

Cathy, Hi, Jeannie 7/23/03 down 172 pounds. Woah. Did they tell you how rare this is?? I almost died from one in 1991. They called all my family from out of town to come say goodbye to me. We never figured out where it came from - I swear it was from Sushi - which I never eat anymore - but the internist told me it could have been from an 18 year old at Taco Bell with dirty hands - great - I never ate at Taco Bell again either. God, I am so glad you are okay. I was in hospital for 15 days on 3 IV pumps. The Flagyl was the worst antibiotic I have ever had - it burned the veins even! Hurt - oh man. Just wanted you to know I feel your pain - you are the only other person I have met since 1991 when I had mine that has had one. I was told they have an 85% mortality rate as well. Scary huh? Jeannie

Topic: A nasty little complication
Had my surgery in July 2003. Since December 2003, I've been feeling increasingly lousy. Pain, nausea, occasional vomiting. Then it would go away. Then come back again. Then go away, etc. Well, in mid-April, I was so sick I could hardly stand. Nausea, vomiting, shakes, the whole bit. Went into emergency and the doctors discovered a liver abscess. The doctor drained 40 ccs of pus out of it. Darned near died. Now I'm on an antibiotic pump complete with a little bag of antibiotics. I have a day nurse who comes in and puts in a new antibiotic bag in the morning and a night nurse who does the same at night. I have a drain bag coming out of my liver which drains excess pus. On May 18th, I go for a CT scan to see if all is well with my liver. On that day the doc will decide whether or not to take the IV off, or to leave it on for a while longer.

When I got worried because I was eating too much, I put myself on liquids for three days. My pouch reshrank, and I went back to eating my smaller meals. Might want to try it! Pat 305-185-150 July 23. 2003

Hi all! I, too, am a July 2003 "start to a new life". Mine was on the 23rd. I weighed 305 and on my 5'4" frame that was WEIGH () too much! I am 10 months out, 120 pounds down, and like everyone else, on a plateau. But after reading Dr. Phil's book (I decided it couldn't hurt!) I really feel a lot better about it. I would suggest that if you are discouraged, pick up his book and read it. It makes you "get real" (his favorite expression!!) about expectations and weight loss. I have increased my walking, my water, and my protein. I hope to break this plateau. I have seen a plastic surgeon and am scheduled for abdominalplasty in August. Now I have to lose the last 20 pounds before then! I hope that will motivate me! Would love to hear from anyone! Pat 305/185/150

Hi there, I had surgery on July 10 also, it seems it was a busy day for RNY I started out at 275 lbs 5'9 I am now 50 years old so maybe that has something to do with the weight loss but I now have lost 95 pounds I need to lose about 40 more pounds. I have been in a plateau since Jan. only losing a pound or two per month! Oh well as long as I am going down and not up I can live with it.

Hi Tracy, Congrats on your weight loss. I had my surgery July 28, 2003 here in Colo. Springs. I too have hit a plateau for the past two months. I'm hoping to lose about 10 lbs more. I'm in a size 8-10, but my breast are huge. Everything fits in all places but my breasts. Very frusterating. Total weight loss as of today is 110 lbs. If you would like to write, I'd sure appreciate it. I talk to some people who have had the surgery, but no one here in Colorado. Take care of yourself and don't let the plateau get to you. My email is [email protected].
