Hi Rachel I had Lap RNY on 7/14 and have also been experiencing the gas/bloating pains (terrible). Seems like it happens every time I eat or drink something, no matter what it is. Takes a while to pass the gas too. Very uncomfortable feeling but I am told this will pass. I've tried the Gas-X chewable tabs too but didn't get much relief. I have been mixing my protein shakes with skim milk and seem to be tolerating them just fine. I hope I don't get the lactose intolerant thing because I absolutely love dairy products. I was supposed to be on liquids for 2 weeks post-op but after 1 week of broth & jello I was ready to scream. I've begun to incorporate semi-solid foods in my meals. I've tried and tolerated refried beans, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes (with a spot of gravy) and egg beaters which 1/2 slice cheese on top. Eating semi-solids has also helped to make me feel "full" and I am now beginning to have formed stools, as opposed to that god awful diarrhea! I haven't been so good with the fluids because they were making me run to the bathroom about every 30 minutes! I'm going to start trying harder though! I've been out and walked and considering that a week ago I had major surgery, I feel great. I hope your recovery goes as well as mine. Best of luck to you! Sue

Dear Miriam, I know you are getting nervous and My prayers are with you. You will do fine and God will be with you. His guardian angels are watching over you. I have been trying to stay busy, cleaning my house and drinking my water. I have had a couple of weak moments this past week, with getting into the sweets a bit, but other than that am really trying hard to eat healthy. Any gained weight is just that much more to lose. It is hard, but you have to not let your mind talk you into overeating. I dread the all-liquid diet for two weeks, but I tell myself that it is physically necessary to give my body the chance to heal on the inside. Not easy, so pray for me too. I love my food too. That is the one thing I worry about the most. We will get through this, there are so many wonderful people on this site!!! Take care, my prayers are with you. God Bless.

I'm glad to hear that every thing went OK. The pain killers definately knock my butt out! I had surgery on the 14 th and am no longer on pain killers because I was Lap RNY. I feel so much better not taking them almost "normal" what ever that is. Pain killers also can constipate you and lack of movement and walking make it harder to pass gass. You do have a catch 22 there. Once you can easy off the pain killers you will start feeling much better. Good Luck Diane Koch

Topic: I am back!
Hi all, Had surgery on 7-15. I am back. Tired and aching but back. Not sure what to think of it all right now. Things were great in the hospital till they found out my epidural was not outtputing like it should so my pain managemant was behind schedual. Right now I can't say that I am in much pain but I do have a terrible "pulling" sensation around my incision. I think I have big gas bubbles but am not sure. I have to pass gas but can't really seem to. I am just so tired, much more tired then I ever thought I would be. I was thinking maybe it was from the pain killers but if I dont take them then I hurt more. Sort of a catch 22. I have already cut the dosage of pain killer in half. I dont think I can do more then that. I have had water, jello and popscils. I have not felt hungry yet, nor have I felt full. I am afraid I dont know what they feel like anymore. I need to walk a bit before I can lay down. I willpost more later.
